My eyes :(

Mrs. Jaclyn Willson, on March 27, 2012 at 9:50 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

Okay so I am really sad. I don't know what I am gonna do.

1) since getting engaged I have been trying to wear contacts because I do not want to have glasses on my wedding day. Unfortunately I have alot of issues with allergies that make it impossible to wear the contacts. When my eyes feel good, they feel great and I can wear the contacts. But this isn't that often Smiley sad Last time I tried to wear them, it was so horrible I had to take them right back out.

2) yesterday my bottom right eye lid suddenly started to hurt. My mom says it's a Sty. She's gonna ask around at work today (She works in an Eye Drs. office) to make sure but she's pretty sure. But it's horrible Smiley sad it hurts and it's swollen on the bottom lid. To top it off, this thursday I have my MUA and hair trial. i really hate my eyes right now.

Not only am I having difficulty wearing my contacts, now on top of that I have a swollen eye lid. As my wedding gets closer I think I'm getting a little more senstive too.

Im sorry Smiley sad if it is a sty, try putting a hot tea bag on your eye. It will definitely help make it heal. There is also ointment to help stys. I hope your eyes feel better.

Get johnsons baby shampoo right now. pollen can get stuck under your lid and cause inflamation. Or you might not have taken your mascara off all the way. rub it into your eye in the shower, it wont hurt at all.

i get these all the time-it really works.

    Thank you!

I am just stressed. I have the trial on thursday. I was stressed cause I wasn't sure if I'd be able to wear the contacts to the trial and I really want to and now I have this to worry about too!

I tried putting a hot tea bag on my lid last night but it didn't go away. I guess I'm expecting an instant miracle. I am going to try again.

Awe I feel your pain with eye problems! Around Thanksgiving last year I couldn't wear my contacts for almost two months because I had cornea infections in both my eyes. Now I have to be careful about how long I wear my contacts and keep putting drops in my eyes to avoid dry eye.

I had a sty once and had to do an ointment regiment. It was so painful and annoying but with the ointment it healed faster than it would have without anything so definitely try to get an ointment!

Have you tried any allergy eye drops? I have the same problem with my eyes with allergies. I rarely wear my contacts because of my allergies too. I use Alaway eye drops for my allergies. They are an over-the-counter eye drop and they have really helped me (there are prescriptions eye drops too but they were way more expensive) Some eye drops you can't use with contacts, but Alaway you just have to wait 10 minutes before you put your contacts in. Just a warning, if you do decide to use them, they burn like a b&^% when you put them in but it goes away quick. And you can always get coupons for them too.. There's a coupon for $4 off on their website http://alaway.com/index.html?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Paid%2bSearch&utm_content=Misspellings&utm_campaign=Alaway They are usually around like $12 at CVS. Hope this helps!

I've had stys... just need a warm compress it normally heals pretty quickly!

Next time, make sure everything is very clean when using contacts. a little bit of dirt can cause this. Always change the solution.

Because I have dryer sensitive allergy eyes like yours, it helps to keep them moist.

When putting the contact in, i have it ready on the index finger and i fill it with solution and look down, open my eye wide with the other hand and put it in full of solution.

Also, I keep visine on hand at all times and add a drop occasionally. (I don't wear makeup, but if you get good water proof stuff you should have no problem)

I never wear my contacts if my nose is stuffy.. just gives me a headache.

@Missy yes I have allergy drops. I am supposed to use them twice a day along with artificial tears. That is what is prescribed by my Dr. My drops burn too which is why the dr wants me to use the tears. I use the tears first and it helps with the burning.

They are expensive though. It's like $15-18 for this tiny little bottle. I know there are cheaper brands but my dr. wants me using a specific kind. It does work pretty good too. But it's not a quick fix. I have to use the drops for like a week straight to get my eyes feeling good. Then I stop taking it for awhile and they start to have problems again. I am trying to keep up with it but it's difficult. I cannot always afford the drops.

and more or less it is a hassle. Seems like most people can just wear their contacts whenever and all the time with no issues.

I have had lots of eye issues, so I feel your pain. You name it, I have probably dealt with it. The best thing I have done for my eyes is switch to daily wear contacts. I have very sensitive eyes and I use to have issues with redness, pain, itching, dryness - all the stuff you are probably going through. I have barely had any of these issues since I switched. You don't need to deal with lens cases or solution. I don't know if they will work for you the same way that they have worked for me. Since I started them, I haven't had to deal with eye drops, whereas I was doing drops on a daily basis before. You might give them a try.

It also depends on the contacts. I have been wearing them since I was in 6th grade (I have an awesome mom). Some feel like sandpaper compared to others. I avoid the Acuvue ones - they are well publicized but are the worst I've ever felt! Try AirOptix by CibaVision or Biofinity by CooperVision. Biofinity are better long term and AirOptix are better for daily wear.

Thank you for all the tips! It's nice to know I am not alone with all this stuff!!

I am not sure I can use different contacts though.I already have a few month's supply of the kind my dr. prescribed for me. I cannot afford to buy more. Besides, when my eye allergies are NOT acting up and my eyes feel good, the contacts I wear are great. I love them. I think it's just the allergies.

^^Agree with Jessie Lyn. I hate Acuvue. I wore them for about two years and had eye infection after eye infection. I also scratched my cornea twice and I never slept in my contacts and took very good care of them. Ask you eye doctor about something breathable. Some contacts don't let hardly any air to the eye (Acuvue) and that can cause problems.

Sorry to hear that Jaclyn! I don't really have any advice or remedies that haven’t already been mentioned by the other ladies but I hope you find something that makes your eyes feel better soon! I know what a pain it is when your eyes are hurting and irritated. Hope it clears it up before your MUA and hair trail this week!

Are you sure its your allergies? the only reason i ask is because when i started to wear contacts was during allergy season. i was fine even with my allergies until one day i wouldnt stop tearing and my eyes would burn like crazy! i went to the doctor to learn that my eyes were irritated by the solution the contacts were in and switched my solution. after that i haven't had a problem with my contacts. and about the sty, warm compress on the eyes!

Make sure you're not wearing old makeup--that can bring on a sty. And the ointment really works--it's over the counter if you haven't purchased it yet. The lsat time I had a sty, I think it cleared it up n les than 48 hours. I have cray allergies (I get shots for them) and FWIW I HATE acuvue. Can't wear them. I use Optix and love them. Expensive but worth it. You can ask your Dr. for sample of other brands--I find they're usually really good abut that. and if you find brand that works better, they should take the others (unopened) back.

There is an over the counter ointment called "STYE" works really fast!. My fh had a stye last weekend, used the ointment and it had began to heal by the next morning, swelling and redness was fading quickly. Good Luck! Hope things get better and try to breath!Smiley smile

If it's a stye put something gold on it (like say your engagement ring) and it will help. Don't ask me how it works it just does...

I know how you feel with your eyes, mine are starting to get puffy and swollen because of the time of year it is...I honestly hate spring where I'm at...I get to wear glasses on my wedding day because I can't find contacts that I don't have a bad reaction to (last thing I need is to have my eyes swell shut just for my wedding day), so I'm gonna go the safe route and get a nice pair of glasses for the wedding day Smiley laugh
