Is there a trick to prevent rubbing?

Anonymous, on March 21, 2012 at 10:40 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 16

The top of my dress has a lot of detailing and my arms are rubbing and it kind of hurts after a while. Does anybody know any secrets to lessen the blow? I heard that bees wax will help but I am scared to put it on the crystals and have it rub onto the dress... what have you tried or heard to try??

Not sure if there is anything specific for wedding dresses, but maybe Lanacane. It is an anti chafe gel. I use it when I do my triathlons to prevent chafing on the arms, legs, stomach, anywhere that rubs clothing really. I have never noticed any stains on my clothes, but then again it they are workout clothes, so I am not concerned about stains.

Christina, First of all congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Beeswax will help initially and it won't harm the gown, but it is not an all day fix. The beeswax will rub off leaving you miserable by the time you walk down the aisle. More likely, the crystals are faceted and it is the rough edges that are bothering you. I would recommend having your seamstress replace the faceted crystals with smooth beads of equal size and color just in the area where your arms are rubbing. It will maintain the look while offering you relief and it will not be noticeable in pictures. I hope this helps. Good luck and again congratulations.

David's Bridal told me bar soap... and it will help keep your armpits fresh.

The tulle is a great idea. This happened to my friend at her wedding! Her poor arms were rubbed raw and she was uncomfortable on her honeymoon! You are smart to think ahead of time!

I have also heard of girls removing the beading from the sides.

Omg! That is why I ended up not getting a beaded dress because just trying it on and walking around the store in it rubbed the crap outta my underarms, even though I really loved the dress. I would see if there is a way you could get some taken off or replaced or something because you should be comfy and able to dance all night. Not have red chafed arms, that would be so bad.

I had a swimsuit when I was 7 that did that to me. I think I have PTSD from it because when I tried on the beaded bodice dress I was like OMG it hurts get it off! lol

    Good luck! =]

I like the idea of sewing a smooth fabric backing to that part of the seam - would tulle work or would it be too scratchy? Maybe depends on how sensitive your skin is. Also - that's a good idea to remove the beading under your arms. I don't know if anybody's going to see it there anyway.

If you can't change the dress for whatever reason, you could probably also go into a runner's roost and ask what people use to prevent chafing when they run marathons.

Christina - so glad you brought this up...

I'll look out for it at my fitting too. Never thought of this problem.

I recommend removing the beads right under the arm area altogether or replacing with smooth ones. They are just going to work their way thru the tulle eventually. We make sure this isn't an issue early on in our Custom fittings, comfort is key for a long stressful day.

David's suggested BAR SOAP??? Do they ever give out good advice? Their people just make this stuff up on the spot to sell gowns.

I have a friend who runs that swears by this! It is a product called body glide!

    http://www.bodyglide.com/

They make one specifically for women for chaffing! I believe you can buy it at wal-mart or any or any sporting goods store! I.e dunhams if you have one near you! or they have a store locator on the site!

That's why I got a dress without beading and added a beaded belt. My arms were so sore in the store I knew more than a couple hours of that and I'd probably be bleeding.

Put liquid latex or liquid Band-Aid on your inner arm to protect from the sequins from scratching up your arms
