High set E-ring

Mrs.T, on September 19, 2014 at 10:53 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 31

FH and I went to the jeweller yesterday and ordered my new engagement ring (long story, but YAY!). I am SOOO excited to get it. However, the stone sits really high up. He said he will drop it down as much as possible, but its still going to sit high (which he did say will look better than being set right down into the band).

Im worried it will be annoying as my current e-ring is set pretty low - that it will catch on things and get in the way and ill prob end up taking it off to do sports and go snowboarding etc, FH is certain I will lose it!

Who has a high set stone? Did you get used to it or does it catch on things/do you take it off all the time? Also I would love to see a pic!

Thx gals!

My stone is pretty high set and doesn't catch on anything that often. Mostly it depends on the fabric of the shirts I wear and will snag on some gloves in the winter, but nothing TOO awful

(WW still isn't letting the photos attach for me)

My stone is very high set, but it doesn't bother me at all. I can't wear it at work since I work in a lab and have to wear gloves, but honestly I wouldn't want to wear any engagement ring at work for fear of damaging it.

I'm pretty active and always doing things- baking, gardening, sports, painting etc and I find my high set ring really annoying. I'm getting a new setting so it can sit lower. Otherwise I'm just going to end up not wearing it.

That said, I have friends who have high set rings and it doesn't bother them at all since they aren't really active with their hands a lot.

My stone is high set as well, it took some getting used to. I'm now so used to it though, I barely notice it. I do take it off to work out, but that's more my fear of it falling off my finger while I sweat than it being high set.

Mine is kind of high set also... it took some getting used to at first... but i adjusted pretty quickly! Every now and again it catches on something... but i don't find it a big problem. I leave mine on to workout (lol my motivation) unless I am doing weight training and need to wear my gloves.

My ring's center stone sat REALLY high at first. I hated it. It's a princess cut, and I was constantly stabbing/cutting myself with the sharp corners. After I drew blood on my leg just turning my steering wheel, I HAD it with the thing, so I brought it to the jeweler and had them lower the stone as far into the setting (halo) as possible. It's a million times better now and looks significantly less tacky. The pic is a before and after from the side.

I have whacked mine quite a bit, still trying to get use to it. But I love the way it looks being high set. I'm trying to be aware, I'm so afraid of damaging it.

I usually take it off when I shower and sleep, or plan on doing other activities like swimming, hiking, etc.

    Enjoy your new ring =)

I would say my ring is high set but it doesn't bother me. I hit it on stuff sometimes, like the inside rim of the washer or dryer when I am doing laundry, but it hasn't gotten damaged. I wear it for snowboarding and it fits just fine under my inner gloves (usually when its really cold I have an inner glove and the otter mitten) I wear it for yoga and its fine. I do take it off at night and for showers.

Its kinda hard to see in these pics but I don't have it so I can't take a new one (I got my wedding band soldered on and FH wont let me wear it because we technically aren't married yet)

At first I wanted a set-in stone, because I was worried about the same things that you are worried about, PLUS I work in the medical field and wear gloves all day long at work, and I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to wear it at work because of that. But the ring I ended up with is a high-set stone (family heirloom, wouldn't trade it in for the world), and I haven't had any of the problems with it that I was worried about. I can even wear it at work under my gloves.

I don't have a picture of it to post at the moment, unfortunately. But it's a pretty standard solitaire, kinda like this one:

I bumped mine ALL the time for the first few months the but starting to not as much now that I'm getting used to wearing it.

I'm in AZ so I don't have to worry about gloves in the winter. It snags on stuff here and there. But I wouldn't change it. My wedding band is a channel set so I'll get my bling without havino to worry about snagging on stuff. I'll be able to wear my band easier than my e-ring.

My ring is set high. (I actually wanted it set high) I haven't had any problems with it. Every once in a blue moon I'll hit it on something, but nothing crazy. The one thing that does happen to me is that it'll get a strand of my hair caught in a prong if I'm scratching my head.

(sorry- for some reason, the camera on my phone can't focus on my ring)

My ring has a high setting and it doesn't bother me at all. It doesn't get caught on anything, I only take it off when I shower, washing dishes and when I'm gardening because I don't want it getting dirty and you're not supposed to get it all soapy, takes away the shine (and sometimes I forget). Other than that, I do everything with it. I never take it off because it's annoying me.

My stone is set high, but I only really remove it for my martial arts classes. Just as a precaution so I don't cut the other students.

I would consider mine pretty high, and I did hit it quite a bit when I first got it, I actually had to have it sent away twice to tighten the prongs because my stone was loose lol oops! I've been better lately though. I think it just takes some getting used to

My ring is sat rather low and I still get it caught on stuff - mostly towels. The design is very intricate, and since it is an antique I cannot/do not want it altered. I did make a tiny cut near my eye the other day though in my sleep.

My ring is similar to Kimberly's and I catch it in my hair every so often but nothing too bad. I love it, the light catches just right Smiley smile

Mine isn't THAT high because I specifically asked my FH to look for a lower set ring, but it is higher than any ring I've ever had because of it's cage and I have gotten it caught under our kitchen cabinets TONS of times. I always think I'm about to break the ring in half because I'm usually moving so fast. It doesn't get caught on clothes or anything like that, though. Just that damn cabinet because our paper towels are against the wall. Stupid cabinets...Oh I've also hit it on tables putting my hands in my lap a bunch, too.

Mine is rather high, but is a three stone so the center diamond doesn't catch on anything too horribly. I still knock it on things fairly frequently. But for sports and working out etc, FH and I bought Qalo rings to wear. We go to the gym everyday together and my engagement ring gets scratched by weights so the Qalo ring was the perfect solution for us. We love them! Plus they are only about $20 so if you happen to lose it its not the end of the world! Smiley smile
