candy buffet costs

❤Mrs.Dashiell❤, on August 23, 2012 at 10:22 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

Has anyone done this before and find it costly? i was thinking about hiring a candy buffet organizer and was givena price of $300.00 to do a party of 100-150 people plus all decorations and candy. Is this cost too high? can i DIY at a cheaper price?

You can DIY it cheaper if you shop around. Buy your candy jars at TJ Maxx, thrift stores or Hobby Lobby when the glass is half off. Buy candy when it's on sale. I think that getting candy in your colors is a bit more pricey...but if you shop around you can get good deals. You have some time, so you can even buy hard candies now (I would wait until 2-3 months out to buy any chocolates). Then either have a BM set it up for you, or if you have a coordinator they can do it as well.

Tabitha...have you checked out Hayley's page she has a lot of great links on there! Smiley smile

    FROM HER PAGE:

How Much Candy Needed for a Candy Buffet????

    # of Guests x 3(oz) then divide the answer by 16(oz) = Total lbs you should buy.

Some say 1/4 LB per guest, others say 1/2 LB per guest. But it's all about the way your candy looks. Plan by how you want the display to look, not how many guests are coming.

Take your candy buffet bags/containers that the guests will be taking home with them to your local grocery store and fill them the types of candy you will have for your event. Then weigh them. Multiply by how many guests, then you will get an idea of the pounds.

DIY candy buffet will cost you less. I bought my jars from goodwill, Michaels (with 50% coupons), homegoods, and dollar tree. Also, my candy was bought at Winco, oriental trading, candy direct, walmart and target. I looked for sales. My wedding (also like yours) was close to Easter, lots of deals on candy around Valentines and Easter. Here's a few pics of ours!

I'm doing our candy buffet as well. bought jars from homegoods and bought candy at target etc in our wedding colors. our wedding is a masquarade theme so our colors are tiffany blue deep red black and white. So many candies come in these colors now, lindor truffles are $3 a bag and I am going to do red licorice, kit kats M&M's hershey kisses, remember all jars do not need to be apothecary, do large martini glasses I'm doing a large square tray filled with M&M's and they will have paper cones standing up in them for the guest to use for the candy, just be creative. We are paying for our entire wedding so believe me it can be done for cheap.

Paper cones to hold candy in are easy to make and it adds a personal touch, cheaper than buying all the containers. I'm doing ours with deep red glitter paper. and tiffany blue stickers on front with our initials. making those as well

Thankfully our venue is providing all of the containers and will do the set up and maintain the candy buffet for us. We just have to provide the candy & candy bags. BTW - i found white candy bags for $3 a pack at AC Moore - they come in packs of 16. Super simple and budget friendly. With halloween coming up, we are hoping to grab some candy on sale as well. We aren't worrying about color coordinating our candy either - that would cost a fortune.

Oh and the paper bags, I bought at Michaels and stamped them myself. $2 for 16. Save Michaels coupons, they also have candy, as does party city.
