the venue was absolutely gorgeous! i loved it, but there was no budging on price of booze... we live in portland, oregon, not new york city, catering had to be done by the venue, which was more expensive per person than any item on the menu, even if they ordered 5 appetizers. i do not regret picking this venue at all, i was lucky enough to have substantial help from my folks for the wedding, but i wish there had been more options, ie. caterers, wine tiers, liquor quality. finally, the venue went through 3 wedding coordinators in the 6 months between when i booked the venue and when the wedding happened, i was also notified that the venue was going on the market 1 month before the wedding, so some of the details i was not aware of because the new coordinator assumed the old coordinator had told me, a bit unprofessional...

Wonderful location - horrible treatment from owner.
After attending a family wedding at the View Point Inn, I can see why others have been so upset with their experiences at this venue.
Positives: The location is gorgeous - wonerful view and beautiful grounds. The Inn is being restored and the interior is fantastic. Brunch looks good (did not enjoy) and entrees at the wedding were delicious. The wedding coordinator and staff are all excellent (despite the constant griping and complaining of the owner, which was heard by guests).
Negatives: The owner of the View Point Inn does not have good people skills. He was rude on several occasions, and seemed unaplogetic. He yelled and snapped at his clients (the people PAYING thousands of dollars to have their party at his venue), as well as wedding guests, vendors, and even his own staff. This unprofessional behavior is unacceptable; customers should NEVER be treated in such an arrogant manner.
During these difficult financial times, business owners can be under a lot of stress. This is NO EXCUSE for this man's lack of tact when handling the stress of running his business.
This venue is located in a residental area. We were berated for "making too much noise" at 10 PM. We were applauding the bride & groom, giving a traditional send off. Perhaps the owner should consider sticking to daytime weddings OR strictly brunch and dinner at this location. Because of this 'curfew', the party ended at 10. Dinner took so long to be served (over two hours), so we felt like our party was cut short & our guests were booted out the front door.
Although this is a beautiful venue, I will not return for brunch or dinner. Neither will many of our guests and vendors. The owner's attitude and lack of business ethics overshadow the delicious food and beautiful view.
I would like to add an end note: the food has changed at this venue. The original chef is no longer with the VPI, and the food quality has diminished since this change took place.

This is an excellent place to get married. They helped make our day absolutely perfect. We didn't have to worry about a thing. Our event coordinator from The View Point Inn made sure everything happened on schedule and we just were able to go through the event and just enjoy ourselves. The wait staff was more than excellent and took care of us like royalty. The chefs prepared fantastic food and we were complimented on the meals by all our guests. Plus, we got to stay the night with our wedding party and have the whole Inn to ourselves; with a full breakfast the next day. You get some serious 5 star service from The View Point Inn. I can't recommend it enough!

Our wedding day was beautiful and could not have asked for more. The food and staff were great. Here is the problem--we had 2 different wedding planners (we booked in April and wed in August) and the day of we found out that our wedding coordinator was someone we had never met or spoken to--that aside, they did a great job and it was pretty much stress free.
Here is my issue, to date, we have still not gotten our $1000 security deposit back due to financial issues with the owners. We loved our wedding day and want the View Point Inn to stay in business but it has been over 7 months and still not seen a dime of money back... Also because of this, the owners have been pretty dodgy about returning emails and phone calls--not cool.

I had my wedding here in August. I was so in love with the building and entire venue and I nearly signed on immediately. It was a heafty deposit and they took our check with ease. It wasnt until we started working with their less then amature staff and wedding planner that we realized we were un for trouble. While the venue is beautiful the managment are not true restaruatuers! They act like their venue is god's gift and that they have been around the block but that is a sad sad sad lie. I had so many issues with this venue I couldnt possibly list them all. THIS PLACE IS A JOKE! after spending nearly 13k on our event and getting very unprofessional service from the management we got screwed in the end when they claimed they were broke and didnt have enough money to refund our CONTRACTED REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT!!!!!! DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. Deposits shouldn't be used as working capital which is what they have been using them for. It has been over 9 months since my wedding and STILL NO MONEY!!!!! They will not and have not returned our calls or emails attempting to get our CONTRACTED REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT!!!!!!!! As you can guess this has really put a bad taste in our mouths and have made us so deeply sad...This is terrible as we feel so dupped, and do not feel comfortable even going to the viewpoint to even eat where we got married. That is what tears my heart out the most.
Please please please reconsider if you are planning an event here, yes it is beautiful but through our own investigation we have learned they own many people, many brides, their contractor, their old PR agent, their vendors and EVEN THEIR STAFF!
I fear the only way we can get our money back is by going to the news. and all this Twillight publicity is making me sick. NO one really knows what is going on behind the scenes and I promise you when they find out the media will have a hay-day.
BUYER BE VERY VERY AWARE OF WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON HERE - THEY WILL NOT REFUND YOUR DEPOSIT. THEY HAVN'T GIVEN US OURS WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU WILL GET YOURS?
The owners are greedy, rude, cowardly, unprofessional, liars that won't face their responsibilities.

The View Point Inn is by far the most picturesque and romantic location we found after looking at almost every well-known venue in the Portland area. The food and ambiance is first rate, although I do believe they have changed chefs since our event. There were, however, quite a few red flags along the way; we witnessed the turn-over of at least four event planners, i.e. our contact for the big day, as well as two GM's, so needless to say I was freaking out at the onset of the planning process. (Amber who came on about 6-8 months in, saw us through until the end but has since left as well.) The wines/ corkage fees are astronomical (we haggled them big time since we have friends in the hospitality business.) Cocktails are also pretty spendy. Despite these snafus, our day was perfect. The waitstaff (ask for Willy) is EXTREMELY kind and helpful. The scenery and decor cannot be beat. The food was what delicious and I believe they always use local and/or organic ingredients. We happened to sign our contract so far in advance though, that we were able to lock in some lower prices, but this is definitely not a venue for the budget-conscious.

The View Point Inn is a beautiful location for a wedding. A fully restored, 1920's road side inn, built on the cliffs of the Columbia River Gorge, there is hardly more you could ask for.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and even though their event coordinator left a few months before our wedding, her replacement and the rest of the staff saw to it that our wedding went off with out a hitch. The owners are fantastic and offered us dinner (we only had cake, coffee and punch at our wedding) and gave us the inn for the night with out charge because unexpected construction delays had kept the upstairs bathroom from being finished.
The inn is expensive, but it is an extremely beautiful location - well worth considering.
