I was worried about DIYing my wedding flowers, but a friend directed me to Potomac and I found their website detailed and easy to navigate. I ordered just a few flowers for a trial run a couple of months before the wedding and had no problems receiving my order. The purple stock I ordered was slightly wilted, even after rehydrating and feeding them. This didn't concern me too much, and I placed my wedding order with them anyway. The flowers I ordered for our wedding were in a lot better shape. On the day we picked them up, however, they informed us that they weren't able to get a shipment of the garden roses we ordered, and invited us to browse their cooler to find an alternative. We picked up peonies that I liked even better than the garden roses I had originally picked, so again, no problem here.
Overall, I think flexibility is key. This is a warehouse that is meant for florists, and as such they were not at all helpful when asking questions about care or flower types. I imagine that if I had called and spoken to a customer service representative I could have had those questions answered. In addition, the wait times at the warehouse were long and it was often hard to find someone when would help you. Several times the person helping us left and never came back. However, at the end of the day we had gorgeous flowers for way under budget. I would work with Potomac again.
I, and my bridesmaids, created all of the flowers for the day ourselves. We were recommended to Potomac Wholesale by a local florist. I HIGHLY recommend Potomac Wholesale.
I communicated with Potomac over the phone as I lived out of state. I wanted very simple flowers (babies breath, billy balls and floral colorspray). The staff was helpful and informative. They answered questions I had after looking at their website, and recommended the perfect amount of flowers.
I picked up the flowers myself and received prompt friendly service. When I got the flowers home they all looked great and were fresh and perfect for our wedding.
If you are looking to save money on flowers and are interested at doing them yourself - Potomac Wholesale is the place to go.

I ordered the flowers for my bouquet, boutonnieres, and the attendants flowers from Potomac Wholesale. It was easy, cost effective, and worth it. The flowers I ordered were stunning. My bridesmaid made the bouquet and boutonnieres.
We did our flower arrangements ourselves and found Potomac Floral Wholesale a great place to buy from. They have a warehouse we visited and saw the great selection. We ordered online and picked up the day before the wedding. The only complaint is that a few of the flowers were not in good condition and unfortunately it wasn't noticed when they were picked up. Overall, it was a fun process and we'd go back to Potomac for future flower purchases. A great place if you want to do it yourself.
If you love flowers but don't want to spend an arm and a leg for them, this is the place to go. Excellent quality and selection but you have to be flexible to adjust to the flowers that are available in season to get a better deal. You don't really know what they'll have available until about 3wks before the order date.
I used Potomac Wholesale Floral for the several hundred stems of gerber daisies that I put in mason jars at the reception. It's hard to beat their prices, but they are essentially a warehouse and are not set up to do business with individual customers. Nearly every time I was there the place was super busy and it was difficult to find someone to ring me up.
When I went to pick up the flowers the day before the wedding they didn't have one of the colors I had ordered. I had placed the order 4 weeks previously for red, yellow, pink, and orange gerber daisies-- they did not have the orange. I saw on the computer screen that they hadn't ordered them until the day before that (so 2 days before the wedding). They told me I could pick them up the next day--as in the day of the wedding. I just picked up different colors from the freezer. The guy helping us was not super concerned with this glitch.
Bottom line: Our reception was very down-home and relaxed, so this place worked for me because I was only ordering one type of flower (and one that is generally pretty resilient for traveling conditions) and it wasn't important to me that the colors were exactly what I ordered. This can save you money if you are flexible and are not stressed that everything be perfect, but you have to have the right mindset!
I opted to purchase our wedding flowers from Potomac Floral and arrange everything myself. Potomac Floral had a huge selection at great prices. The staff there was really friendly and very helpful. They gave advice about how to keep the flowers and recommendations about what would be in season. We put in our order about a week ahead of time and picked up everything two days before the wedding. The flowers looked great and stayed looking fresh through the wedding. One star off because my order was not entirely correct. I should have checked before I left, but I didn't open all the boxes until I got home and discovered one of the items was missing and one was incorrect. However, they were able to correct it without any trouble. We just had to make another trip back to the warehouse.
Iba is the internet sales manager at Potomac Wholesale Floral and he was great in assisting me in purchasing my roses. He gave me a great deal because the flowers that I wanted were not in stock. Great place for flowers and I will use them again!
From very early on I knew that I would DIY our wedding flowers. I wanted to keep it simple and cost efficient. I looked up online video tutorials. Did trial runs of our bouquets during the summer heat with flowers from a wholesaler local to me. However, due to not living in NYC I had to find other wholesalers to provide our day of flowers. Potomac was highly recommended to me through a old friend. I opted to go with them due to their proximity to NYC rather than a online wholesaler. I followed all the steps of being right there to sign for the flowers, have them arrive two days prior to my wedding day to give them time to acclimate. Feed them flower food, continually spritz them with water, keep them in a cool sterile environment. When the flowers came, they were in horrible condition. The flowers were placed in plastic covers with no breathing holes. A lot of the greenery were rotted. Granted it was humid out and summer, but don't you think a florist should know to put breathing holes in the plastic? Thankfully I ordered enough extra because I ended up throwing out half the flowers because they never made it. One example: Of the dozen tiny gerbera daisies I ordered for my husband's bout (I only needed ONE) none of them made it. I ended up just making his bout the same as the groomsman. After the wedding I emailed Potomac telling them the bad conditions their flowers arrived in. I wanted an apology, or an acknowledgment. But no response to this day. Of all the vendors I went with for our wedding this is the only one I am dissatisfied with. I would NOT recommend Potomac.
We got our flowers from here. It took a while to get someone to help us with our order, but once it was done, it was relatively easy. The flowers were beautiful, and we saved so much money by picking them up ourselves the day before the wedding. If you have a lot of helpers, this is definitely the way to go to. My bouquets looked professionally made, even though I had no plan when I chose the flowers. I was so happy with the results.
My flowers were out of this world! The guy at Potomac Wholesalers was very specific about how the cut the flowers and what to do so they would open by the wedding day. It was the best value for our money and we saved alot buy buying wholesale.
My friends/bridesmaids purchased all of my wedding flowers from this dealer. It saved us TONS of money and our flowers could not have been more gorgeous.
I placed my order for flowers through their online website with no difficulties. Their prices were very reasonable compared to other sources I researched. There was no follow up beyond the email confirmation which I brought with me. I did call prior to my pick up date to change that date and they were very flexible in doing that. Upon arrival at the warehouse my order was brought out on a cart and everything fit into two long, large boxes. They explained that I got that last two batches of red roses because their suppliers were sold out due to the holidays and they had to take those two from a larger order for another florist--since this was the feature flower in my arrangements I was thankful that they made the choice to give me the flowers I needed. One other flower which was slightly out of season was also not available. I would have preferred to be notified of that in advance of coming to the warehouse so I could have researched other possible providers for that flower. However I was allowed to go through the refrigerated section with an employee to pick at an alternative. My choice was more expensive than the original but they gave me a comparable price anyways. There was also one type of filler that was not exactly what I wanted so again they showed me the alternatives and helped me select one. Ultimately I ended up using all the flowers I got but did find the exact filler I wanted at another store so the alternative filler ended up being wasted.
I had major issues with Potomac Floral. I ordered dark burgandy gerber daisies and ivory gerber daisies. I live in Virginia so it was an hour drive to the florist on friday(my wedding was on sunday), when I got there, I was told that my burgandy flowers didnt come in, and that no one had bothered to call me. It turns out they did come in just not in good shape, but I am still upset that I was not notified of the problem until I got there. Instead they had planned on giving us bright red gerbers. The showed us the flowers in the cooler but nothing matched, and I almost ended up going with roses, until someone suggested painting my bright red flowers with floral paint. After being shown the result I agreed to that but was still forced to not only pay for the flowers, but also the paint, and I had to paint them all myself. The flowers ended up great, and I was very pleased with the lifespan of the flowers. The red paint stains, and when the flowers got wet, the color bleeds out of them. Warning to anyone planning on painting your flowers: the flowers color will come off if touched to water, avoid if possible, if not havve someone else do them as close to the wedding as possible to reduce the risk of water being an issue. I would strongly urge others to look elsewhere for a florist/wholesale place.
The flowers we ordered were not available when we went to pick them up, and many of the flowers they did give us for our diy arrangements were of such poor quality that they were unusable. We were able to exchange some of the flowers, but it was very time-consuming and stressful.
I was able to stop by Potomac Wholesale Flowers a month before my wedding and "test drive" the kind of flowers I wanted, just to make sure how many days before the wedding I needed to pick them up. I placed my wedding order mostly online, and on the day I picked the flowers up I browsed through the refrigerated room to select additional roses. They were absolutely stunning. Some of the smaller roses I chose had one or two brown spots, so the salesman gave me a discount for them. The flowers I'd pre-ordered were well packed.
This is a great place to save money; unlike some flower wholesalers, they don't mind selling to the public. I paid half of what it would have cost for a florist to do all of my flowers.
