About
Three Sisters Flowers is owned by Susan Kelly.

Susan has been in the flower business since she was 16 years old, when she got her first after school job. She has been fortunate to work with some of the best floral designers in the business including a stint at the flower shop at Walt Disney World in Orlando doing floral design for the hotels, events and weddings. Susan majored in Ornamental Horticulture.

Susan learned much from each of her mentors and then went on to a career in fashion. Susan’s younger sister, Wendy, asked her to create her wedding flowers in 2000 which led to many requests for her floral designs from the guests at that wedding. Three Sisters Flowers was born.

Susan finds her inspiration from nature. She prides herself on finding the best resources for high quality flowers and supplies. Her artistic philosophy is one of abundance and natural beauty. She stays up on the latest trends and collects books on past trends. She loves to combine old and new to create a sense of updated tradition. Susan also researches the language of flowers and will let you know the meaning of your own bouquet. Susan personally loves fragrant flowers – her favorite is tuberose.

At Three Sisters Flowers we set ourselves apart by being involved in every detail and being completely hands on with your wedding. We only accept one to two weddings a weekend so we can personally be involved in every aspect. We serve the entire Bay Area.

Susan is also a wedding coordinator and is happy to assist in any aspect of your special day. She has a great network of event professionals.

We have been designing flowers for more than twenty years and feel so lucky to be able to share our passion for beautiful flowers and design with you, your family and friends to enhance the important events in your life.

And yes, there really are three sisters - Susan, Wendy, and Beth!

Additional Questions and Answers
How far in advance should I reserve my wedding date with Three Sister’s Flowers?
We do book up to one year in advance especially for the busy wedding season of June thru October, so the earlier the better. If we are not booked on your date we can work with just two week’s notice.

How do I know what’s in season or what is available in the colors I have chosen?

This is the reason for our initial consultation meeting. We can discuss the vision for your wedding day and what will be available. Keep in mind that you can get almost any flowers any time of the year but if they are not in season you can expect to pay quite a bit more.

What if I have no idea about colors or what style I like?
We will discuss all of the details of your wedding day so we can get a feel for your likes and dislikes. We’ll look at photos of things we’ve done for other events and make suggestions for making your wedding flowers reflect your style and taste. Every arrangement we design is unique based on so many factors including your venue, the size of your wedding, what is in season and current trends. Each and every client inspires us to create a unique and lush floral experience.

What should I expect at the initial consultation with you?

The meeting will take about one and a half hours. You should bring color samples, photos of the dresses and of bouquets that you like. We’ll talk about the feel of your wedding, help with your theme and go over the details of your wedding day.

Where does the consultation take place?

We can meet wherever it’s convenient for you. We work out of a studio in Susan’s home in Palo Alto. We are very flexible.

How much should I budget for my flowers?

We will also discuss this in more detail at our meeting. Flower prices vary based on availability, seasonality, transportation costs, weather, etc. After our consultation, we will provide you with a detailed estimate of your wedding flowers. We can always make substitutions or suggest ways to bring the costs in line with your budget.

Who will be making my bouquets and delivering them as well as setting up?

Susan Kelly, our primary owner is personally involved in every step from going to the flower market in the early morning to helping pin on bouttonnierres. You will usually see at least one of her sisters, maybe even a niece.
