I recently worked with Katie at an October wedding in Tyson's Corner, Va. She was fun to work with, very professional, and she got some great footage of the evening's events. I highly recommend her for your wedding and I hope to work with her again in the future.
Katie photographed a Wedding I coordinated in August at the Sundara in Boones Mill VA. Her personality and professionalism was such a breath of fresh air! The pictures are fabulous and I hope to work with her again in the future! Thank you Katie!

Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
What primary photographic style do you identify with?
Contemporary, Photojournalism

What do your packages include?
Albums, Digital Files, High Resolution Images

Do you have liability insurance?
Yes

Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
Each image is given exquisite attention to detail and careful retouching.

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
At this point, I believe I've handled all of the different & difficult lighting situations possible.

Is your media preference film or digital?
I love the look of film-I worked with it for 15 years, so I'm a bit partial. However, with today's economy it just isn't reasonable to use. Therefore, I use all digital equipment but I insert the qualities of film through the editing of every chosen image.

How many photographers do you work with?
I have an amazing assistant photographer named Nikki, however, she is an additional $250.00-but completely worth it!

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
I simply can't imagine not being somewhere that I've said I would be. However, if something were to happen-I definitely give you all of your money back.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
I know of some photographers who book multiple weddings in one day-I can't imagine that their work quality is high. So, I will never do this; however, will not book more than 2 weddings in one weekend (one each day). They are carefully booked in relation to distance from one another.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Yes, my assistant Nikki.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
I bring my Canon 5D's, flash, tripods, lots of memory cards, etc

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Oh yes!

Do you charge hourly or full day?
I have several options for coverage length. Once the amount of time has been chosen, you can add additional hours at $150.00/hour for both myself & Nikki

Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
$150.00/hour (see above)

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
Other than a meal-none. I like to give the clients the coverage they're paying for.

Do you charge for travel?
I do not charge for travel to DC, Richmond, or anywhere within 2 hours each way. Anything beyond that is $50/hour

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
One-Two Weeks

In what format are the initial proofs offered?
I use password protected online hosting for couples to initially see their photographs. After that, every couple receives their best 200-350 images retouched and in the highest jpeg format possible on CDs.

How long can the client keep the proofs?
I just give you the images, not the scaled down versions

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
I retain the copyright to use the photographs for the best interest of Open Air Photography. This includes commercial printing & publishing. However, the images that come on the CDs for the couples do not have watermarks or restrictions on printing for themselves.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
Yes.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
Yes.

Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes.

What kind of albums do you offer?
Image Capsule (flush-mount & completely waterproof!!!), Asuka Books, and a really great Coffee Table style album.

When will the client get the final album?
The albums can take anywhere from 4-8 weeks. It depends on what type of album the couple chooses in addition to how long it takes for them to decide the images they want to be included in that album.

Tips and Advice
One of the main things I've learned about weddings-and having a wedding of my own is that you can never plan for everything.  As many Brides are preparing their outlines for the big day, I would tell every one of them to add in an additional 30-45 minutes (for a total of 1-1 1/2 hours) after the ceremony for photographs.  That way, if that time remains extra and everything is going as scheduled-then you have some time to yourselves. Otherwise, you don't want to be without those amazing photographs that you'll have for years and years!
