About
Long oppressed by the corporate giant, Mew Paper Arts was created by designer and illustrator Alissa Harvey as a way to escape the ace-bandage colored walls of a 6’ x 8’ cubicle. What began as a doodle in the margin of a legal pad has bloomed into a full-time design studio offering stationery for all of life’s most noteworthy occasions.

Since it’s inception, Mew Paper wedding stationery has been featured on Martha Stewart, The Knot, Real Simple, Polka Dot Bride and more. Alissa’s broad client list spans the globe with events in England, Scotland, Singapore, Australia and every corner of the Unted States.

A peek into the studio in suburban Danbury, CT would reveal her cat (and business partner) Cooper practicing being a rug, racks of paper in colors good enough to eat and probably one or two (or three) empty tea cups. There’s ice cream for breakfast, mid-day scooter rides to the farm market, and spontaneous outbursts into song. It really is a magical place!

Every item in the Mew studio has been handmade with pure intentions for the environment, the independent artist and you, the consumer. That means human hands created your entire stationery ensemble from concept, to print and sealed your package with love. When you buy handmade, not only are you supporting a quirky gal and her fat cat, you’re giving a gift with its own tiny heart.

Additional Questions and Answers
Printing Methods
Here at Mew, our standard method is digital flat printing. This results in bold, rich color on a variety of different paper types.

We proudly offer printing services such as letterpress, engraving, offset lithography, thermography, embossing, foil stamping and die cutting. Please inquire for a quote on non-standard printing methods.

Purchase Requirements
The Mew Studio is happy to accommodate orders for all types of events—from an intimate backyard BBQ for your close family and friends, to the grandest ballroom affair. There is no minimum purchase amount, for flat digital printing except for pocket fold style invitations which require a 25 piece minimum.

Letterpress, engraving, offset lithography and other special services require a minimum purchase of 100 sets.

To calculate how many invitation sets you should order, it’s typical to count one per couple, single or family, plus about 20 extras.

Timing
Save-the-dates should be mailed 6-8 months prior to your wedding. Invitations should go out 8-10 weeks prior to the wedding. Additional items such as escort cards, programs, menus, table numbers, favor tags and thank you notes should be considered 4 weeks prior to the event.

The Mew Studio requires 3-5 weeks design and production time to complete your project. Custom design may take between 4-6 weeks to complete.

Pricing

Every item produced in the Mew Paper studio is completely handmade, which means that your wedding invitation will make a unique statement to each of your guest’s when the envelope is opened. You will experience a level of service and quality that you may not find when shopping elsewhere on the web for wedding stationery. We offer printing options to accommodate all budgets from flat digital printing to engraving.

All invitations are priced per set. A standard set includes the fully-assembled invitation, response card with printed ivory or white envelope, and single mailing envelope printed with return address on the back flap. Pocketfold Sets include the folio, invitation, three enclosures and a closure method such as bellyband, plaque or ribbon.

Because every ensemble is individually designed to include only the components and quantities that you need, I’ll be happy to provide you with a detailed quote outlining your costs before we begin working together.

Custom Design Work
Mixing and matching paper and ink colors on designs existing in the Mew portfolio is a common part of the process, and most often does not incur additional fees. Upgraded paper, ribbon and envelope selections can always be accommodated, and will result in additional fees.

In the event that you would like to work together to build an entirely custom invitation suite, based on your unique vision for your special event, there is a one time, non-refundable, $150 custom design and illustration fee payable at the onset of the design process. You’ll provide your ideas via magazine clippings, web links and personal sketches, and we’ll consult to create a couture stationery suite. Mew reserves the rights to all designs created on a custom basis.

Samples
Samples of all the invitation ensembles listed here are available for purchase for $6.00 each. Because of the volume of samples that are sold at Mew, I am unable to customize samples with your wording or color preferences. However, I will make every effort to provide you with paper swatches to help you visualize your color scheme. If you choose to work with Mew to produce your invitation ensemble, the cost of your sample will be credited to your final order.

Proofing Process, Payment and Shipping
A 50% deposit is required to begin work on your invitation suite. Payment is accepted via paypal, where you can use any credit card, or by personal check. If you prefer to use a personal check to pay, work will begin after the check arrives and clears.

Once the deposit (and custom design fee, if applicable) is received, the proofing process will begin. You’ll receive an e-mail form requesting the details for your invitation ensemble.

Final approval in writing (via e-mail) is required to begin printing. At this time, your 50% balance will be due. Printing typically begins immediately after approval is issued, and at this time no further changes can be made without incurring re-design costs. It is of utmost importance that you thoroughly read your proofs prior to signing for approval. Once approval is given, Mew Paper Arts waives responsibility for any errors including typesetting, format, grammar, spelling, punctuation or otherwise. If you should choose to reprint after final approval is given, you will be responsible for all costs for production and printing.

You will be notified when the shipment is ready, and provided with a tracking number. Our standard shipping service is via USPS: Priority, Insured, Delivery Confirmation. If you prefer another shipping method, we’re happy to accommodate at your expense.
