Frequently Asked Questions for Officiant
What officiant services do you provide?
Civil Union, Interfaith Ceremony, Non-religious Ceremony, Same Sex, Single Religion Ceremony
What religious affiliations do you serve?
Christian (no denomination)
Can you accommodate the hearing impaired?
No
Are you willing to perform a ceremony at a non-religious site?
Yes, most definitely. I will entertain virtually any location. Last fall I made the trek up Mt. Monadnock in Jaffrey for a ceremony. It was lovely. I also hiked into Pisgah Park when there was still snow on the ground. I can be available last minute, so don't hesitate to contact me via cell phone.
Are you flexible in the wording used throughout the ceremony, including the vows?
Yes. More often than not I use a Questionnaire for my brides and grooms. The more information they provide, the more tailored the ceremony is to them.
Do you allow the couple to write their own vows, if desired?
Yes. On occasion I serve more as a reader of a ceremony that has been written by a couple than as the writer. More often than not, however, I write the ceremonies I officiate. Either way, the ceremonies I have performed have been wonderful and very personal. I take my role very seriously and love the spoken word.
Do you have a list of readings pre-selected, from which the couple must choose?
Yes. There are many listed on my website. I encourage my brides and grooms to use a piece that resonates with them, even something that comes from a favorite book, song lyrics, etc.
Do you require that premarital counseling be done?
No. What I do encourage, however, is a time to sit and talk about a couple's vision of their ceremony. Do they want to incorporate music or poetry, a sand ceremony or unity ceremony. I seldom use boilerplate language if I can avoid it. I am not clergy. I do not wear a black robe to signify my JP status. More than anything I am a proponent of the institution of marriage - plain and simple. I've been married myself for 26 years!
Are you willing to perform pre-ceremony rehearsals?
Yes. Frankly, I work so closely with my bride and groom right up to the wedding date that I find I don't always need to be at a rehearsal, unless the wedding and venue are large and require special acoustic arrangements, and if that's the case I charge a bit more. I find the rehearsals are critical in many instances. It could make or break your big day and if it is going to put the couple's minds at ease, than I am all for a pre-ceremony rehearsal.

Tips and Advice
In order for a NH Justice of the Peace to officiate at a wedding in Mass., a one page form needs to be filed with the Secretary of State’s Office 4-6 weeks before the wedding. It can be faxed and it is simple, but there is some planning entailed. If you pay me by check, I will file your completed License after the check has cleared. |
