Eagle Eye Photography
Rutsen Eagle

Voted "Best Photographer in Richmond"
by Richmond Magazine Readers

Rutsen Eagle is a Richmond native and attended The Collegiate School.

Rutsen graduated from The Collegiate School where he studied film photography. He was recognized by the Quill and Scroll for producing unique photographs in the school's monthly periodical, The Match. Rutsen graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, specializing in Photography. VCU is proud to announce that it was recently ranked the 4th best Art School in the nation.

Eagle Eye Photography was approached by NBC to photograph the NBC12 Dream Wedding in 2006.  We had such a wonderful time working with NBC and the affiliates of the Dream Wedding.  To read the testimonial from Dawn Young, Director of Sales Promotions, go to our comments page.

Rutsen was recognized in 2007 and 2008 by The Pilsner Urquell International Photography Awards Competition for his works titled "The Office" and "Race the Sun.". He has been recognized for several years by the International
Society of Photographers.

"Tom Hilterbrant taught me how to shoot and David Stott demonstrated to me the effectiveness of photography in print form. It was a wild night at The Landmark Theater where I had the opportunity to photograph Widespread Panic. Dave Schools, the bassist for the band, was a Collegiate Alum and provided me with some great advice during a backstage photo shoot. He said, 'once you find inspiration, embrace it and know that you can always
get better at what you do'."

Rutsen completed his general studies at James Madison University before making the decision to pursue photography as a Major. He dreamed of owning  a business dedicated to providing clients with a unique and refreshing experience and created Eagle Eye Photography,.

With new skills and a positive attitude towards photography, Rutsen was eligible to serve as the first photo-intern for The Richmond Magazine. Immediately he began to develop and refine his skills. Under the aid of the Writers, Editors, and Art Directors he quickly developed an understanding of how photography would apply to the real world. An experience that would encourage him to become a local freelance photographer and small business owner.

I was VERY focused on the photography for our wedding. It was more important to me than even The Dress! I like a more creative look with artistic flare. For me, the photography is the only tangible thing you have after the wedding to relive all the memories. Everyone says the wedding will go by so fast, which is absolutely true - even when stretching it over four days at a resort! My then fiancé did not see the value in taking photographers with us for a destination wedding, especially when the resort offered photographers in our package. I was emphatic that we must take our own photographers, as there was no way I could trust a resort photographer to capture our Big Day. And thank goodness we did!

Rutsen Eagle is an artistic master! It was his creative eye that drew us to him in the first place. Then his personality wins you over & his technical expertise backs it up. He & his team captured the essense of the place & of course, all our big moments. Do be warned that they are focused on the overall art of the shot, and less focused on your facial expressions - so when they're shooting, be ready all the time!

Our wedding was in Mexico & intentionally only a small group of close family & friends. We now definitely consider Rutsen & his team friends. They fit in with our guests perfectly & made everyone comfortable. We have so many great images to go though, it's difficult to narrow it down for the albums.

I do recommend carving out as much time as you possibly can to 'let the master work.' We were very focused on spending time with our guests & if there's anything I would change, I would have spent more time shooting with Rut. With our wedding being on 11/11/11 & in a resort area (Nuevo Vallarta), our officiants had 11 (ironic but true) weddings that day so they were about a half an hour late for our ceremony - which threw off our timing & means that we lost a lot more sunlight than planned. Rut, being the pro that he is, had all of his light stands ready to go so we could still get great post-ceremony group shots & portrait shots. Looking back, I should have gotten ready earlier in the day to get time for more pre-ceremony photos. Regardless, our images are beautiful! I'm just addicted now & wish we had even more!

We also had Rut do a video for us & it turned out amazing! Personal & beautiful! Captured the essence of our entire experience!

Thank you, Rut & Team!!! Keep in touch - you're part of the family now!
