"Tom Hilterbrant taught me how to shoot and David Stott demonstrated to me the effectiveness of photography in print form. It was a wild night at The Landmark Theater where I had the opportunity to photograph Widespread Panic. Dave Schools, the bassist for the band, was a Collegiate Alum and provided me with some great advice during a backstage photo shoot. He said, 'once you find inspiration, embrace it and know that you can always
get better at what you do'."
Rutsen completed his general studies at James Madison University before making the decision to pursue photography as a Major. He dreamed of owning a business dedicated to providing clients with a unique and refreshing experience and created Eagle Eye Photography,.
With new skills and a positive attitude towards photography, Rutsen was eligible to serve as the first photo-intern for The Richmond Magazine. Immediately he began to develop and refine his skills. Under the aid of the Writers, Editors, and Art Directors he quickly developed an understanding of how photography would apply to the real world. An experience that would encourage him to become a local freelance photographer and small business owner.
