Tips and Advice
Your wedding day is the most important day of your life. Hiring a DJ for your wedding is one of the most important decisions to a successful reception. After spending Thousands on your wedding, don’t let saving a few hundred dollars on your DJ ruin your reception. Choosing the right DJ for your reception will provide help in coordinating all activities, announcements, special request, and in a professional manner.
Things you should ask your DJ
Will the DJ provide a written contract? This can not be emphasized enough and how important it is to get your DJ confirmed in writing. All terms of the agreement should be in writing to avoid any complications later on. This insures you that the DJ should show up. If you don’t have a contract, it’s a good chance the DJ might find a higher paying job, cancel or give you the slip.
Will the DJ use professional sound equipment? There is a big difference between the audio equipment you have at home and the equipment the professional DJ uses. Professional audio equipment is built to go on the road.
Can the DJ supply back-up equipment? This can be really scary if at some point through the event something happens to the sound equipment. If the DJ doesn’t carry back-up equipment the party is over. If the DJ has back-up equipment the event is only interrupted for a few minutes while he changes a component. Even the best professional equipment can fail on occasion, so it is very important to know if your DJ has a plan or back-up equipment available
Will the DJ be professionally dressed? How many times have you gone to a wedding reception and the DJ was dressed in blue jeans and a t-shirt. (It happens) It is important that your DJ looks the part by dressing in formal or semi-formal attire; it should be your preference. Always ask what he or she will be wearing.
Does the DJ know the proper etiquette and procedure for a Wedding? A "Professional DJ" will become involved in the planning of your function and will be prepared to handle any announcements or special events. A guideline of the formalities should be discussed ahead of time and in writing. A lot of announcements and activities occur at a reception from introductions, cake cutting, toast, bouquet toss, garter toss and all the special dances. Being unprepared or unfamiliar with your type of event will lead to failure.
Will the DJ discuss music selections and is the DJ willing to play requests? A "Professional DJ" can’t possibly know everything there is to know about all music styles. He should be willing to listen to your ideas and input or incorporate them into your event. He should listen to your requests and play them where they are appropriate. Keep in mind if you have a lot of requests the DJ may not be able to play all of them. There are some DJ services that will not play any requests. It’s also important to have a variety of music especially at a wedding; Styles like Disco, Country, Jazz, Big Band, Pop, R&B, Motown, Standards, Top 40, and Line Dances etc.
Will the DJ arrive on time? Make sure they set up prior to any guests arriving and ready to start when you want them too. Many times due to poor planning the DJ shows up late or in the middle of dinner to set up, very shabby.
Does The DJ Charge Mileage or a Set-Up Fee? You should take in consideration of today’s gas prices and if it’s a difficult setup which may require additional help or setup time. Not every event can be 30 miles or less from DJ office and not every event has easy access.
Is the DJ registered and insured? A “Professional DJ”who is registered and insured has taken the time to show they are serious business people. It’s a good idea to stick with the establishedDJ Service, especially when planning a wedding or corporate event.
Stop asking for videos! When will any DJ send a videotape of a reception where no one is dancing or it was boring? All of these tapes are edited and professionally done most of the time with enhanced effects only to make you thinking that ABC DJ Service is the best.
