Zika virus limiting honeymoon plans

Does anyone have any suggestions for a tropical honeymoon destination that is Zika-free that doesn't take over a day to get to from FL? We would love to go to Bora Bora or the South Pacific, but it just isn't feasible for us with time off. My FH and I want to start trying to conceive towards the end...

My FH and I want to start trying to conceive towards the end of the summer and now South, and Central America and the Caribbean is basically off limits to us because of this Zika virus. Does anyone have any suggestions for somewhat affordable, close, tropical spots?

We are going to Punta Cana next month so I met with my doctor last month to ask if I should cancel or not. She said no at that time. She felt comfortable with me going as long as we used condoms prior to going and for a month after we get back. She's not worried about it staying in me. She's worried about how long it might stay in my FH's semen if he contracts it. She just got updated information on it last week & called me back. She told me she's changed her recommendation to it is better for us to cancel. They just aren't sure how long it stays in the semen so she's not sure a month is long enough to wait to start trying to conceive. She also said she understands if we don't cancel because our honeymoon is so close and we likely won't get it. She just has to tell us the safe/cautious thing to do. So we are now debating if we cancel or not. I never thought a damn mosquito would stress me out so much!!

    Spain!

I ran into the same issue. It really stinks bc were going in November. South America is the only reasonable cost, "close" and warm place to go outside of the states but the idea of microcephaly is terrifying to me!

Does anyone think they'll spray the whole city & kill most of the mosquitos for the olympics?!

We went to Mexico in November... Not sure if it's spread there. Riviera Maya. Honestly you could contract in in southern US states probably... What about Italy or he Mediterranean? Goa in India is beautiful tropics. Australia? New Zealand? Virgin Islands?

Another vote for Bermuda. It's a lot further north so probably won't be affected, but it's still tropical and warm. As a bonus it's a much shorter flight than a lot of other more tropical destinations.

Coastal Texas? IDK, I think you should have an amazing honey moon and ttc once the threat passes.

We are still going to Mexico because it was already paid for and non refundable when this all came out, I am mildly concerned but I found these bug spray/lotions that are supposed to be the best you can get for mosquitos that may carry Zika so I bought 6 and will just be very diligent about using

We ran into the same issue. My doctor recommended we cancel our honeymoon to Mexico due to Zika so we are now going to Portugal! I couldn't be more excited. I agree with some PP...our doctor said that's it's unknown how long it remains in semen, so we aren't taking any risks.

Yeah, the sexual transmission thing would scare me. It's one thing to say you just won't get pregnant until a few weeks after you come back, so you'll have no risk of having it while you're pregnant. But if it can live in sperm for a while (and they don't know how long), you have no way of knowing when it would be safe to get pregnant.

Quick question... not sure if anyone knows the answer to this. If a mosquito is infected, mates with another mosquito and then have babies.... will the babies have the virus?

We are thinking about the Bahamas. It's not on the Zika list right now. I may check with my doctor before we book though.
