Zales Ring is Due for Inspection and Cleaning -Worried

Linda, on July 1, 2016 at 11:07 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 36

My FH purchased my ring from Zales and its due for inspection and cleaning this month. Only thing is im a little nervous with all the drama that has been going on with this company lately. Is there anything I should be afraid of if i take it in tommorow? do they return it right away or do i have to leave it overnight? I definitely dont want to do that.

FH also bought my ring at Zales, but I've never taken it there to be serviced. I got it sized and cleaned at a small local jeweler and plan to get it redipped/inspected there also. It's nice that Zales offers free work but id rather pay a company I trust than hand it over to a company in such negative light right now.

FH got my ring at Kay and I had my own horrible experience when I got it sized (but I ended up with a clearer diamond) but when I got it inspected and cleaned it didn't leave the store. They did it right in front of me, only took about 15 minutes. I did make sure that I had documentation saying I did bring it in, I've heard that's another way they screw people.

I'm guessing OP has the warranty package like I do. You have to get it cleaned/inspected every 6 months for the warranty to hold up

Thanks everyone.. ill see what ill do. Yeah @Katherine thats the package we have FH thinks im being a little paranoid but I think i would go crazy if something happened to my ring. If they clean it right there I dont mind I would just wait for it. Im just not okay with them staying with the ring and next thing you know its gone.

It should be done right in the store, right in front of you. Inspection and cleaning is different from getting it rhodium dipped or resized or whatever and they ship it out. Nothing to worry about.

Inspection and cleaning is done in one day...only time they'll keep it is if there's a loose diamond or one has fallen off....I've already had two inspections done

Inspection and cleaning is quick and done right in front of you, just make sure you bring your proof of purchase/warranty packet they gave you that tells you when you're due for inspections and cleanings because they'll mark it in there. My e-ring and wedding band are from Kay's. I recently had to send it out to get re-sized. I was extremely nervous but I got my rings back with no problems. I think with everything being out in the open right now, they won't try any funny business to make things worse. Just keep in mind that if you do choose to get the work done at another jeweler, your warranty becomes null and void.

You know, with all the press and even girls on here having problems, I would find a small local jeweler and take it there.

My rings are one possession I don't fuck around with. I'd just take it to a local, more reputable jeweler. Clearly, a warranty package at Zales doesn't mean much anyway.

When I take my ring to get inspected, they just look at if and if anything is wrong then they would sent it away. But if everything is ok they just clean it and give it back. I have the warranty there and have to get it done. Well except I lost the paper work with our move. Whoops.

The first time I took mine into Kays for the warranty inspection one of the stones on the side had fallen out. I was beyond nervous but the ring came back and there were no changes. I have to take it in again next month and I will be watching them like a hawk.

I would forget the warranty and just get it insured, then have someone local clean it.

I tell everyone to find an independent jeweler who will inspect in front of you, and give you documentation with your GIA number.

I've taken rings to Zales many times, over a few years. I've never had a problem. Now that my e-ring is a more expensive ring than the other ones I've brought in, I will be more careful. Cleanings and inspection are done in front of you. Other services, like redipping, tightening of prongs, etc. are sent away.

It takes two minutes and they give it right back. The issues are when they keep it and send it away. You should keep up with these in order to keep your warranty. My ring is also from zales

Inspection and cleaning should be done right there.

My ring is from Kay. I just got it back after 2 weeks. My ring story: FH proposed in March, got it resized in April (took 10 days) Upon return the shank was thin and not sottered (sp?) correctly, I didn't know this. A week or so later I was admiring my ring and noticed my center stone was crooked (in sure this was my fault. I remember knock my hand) I took it immediately in to make sure it wasn't loose. I took it to a different location the where it was bought and resized. The sales lady assured me it wasn't loose but she could send it out to fix. She then Commented on how my shank was way too thin and the soter (sp?) was worn away. End of a long story I got my e-ring and wedding band (they are a set) both re-shanked and the diamond straightened. If took 2 weeks but my rings are back better then before! I really think with the lawsuits they are being extra careful with people's jewelry.

They inspect it clean while you wait Smiley winking Don't worry. I believe they only send rings out only if you need repair.

My band came from there. It's going for it's 5 inspection next month.

The inspection takes like 5 minutes.

Twice, they said one of the diamonds was loose and they sent it to get it fixed. Each time, it was gone for maybe 4 days.

You can get your rings cleaned and inspected at any jeweler for free. The only reason to go do this at Zales is if you care about keeping your warranty in tact. But if you don't trust them and wouldn't want to leave your rings for any sort of real repair with them, then the warranty is worthless anyway. The main point of those inspections is so if you miss one they can void the warranty you paid for and they made a pure profit on the thing.

@Laura - just out of curiosity, did you pay for any of that or was it all done under warranty?
