Zales Delima *UPDATE IN COMMENTS*

CoolKat, on July 5, 2017 at 2:27 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 31

FH and I bought our wedding bands a few weeks ago from Zales. The ring FH wanted was only offered online so we went ahead and ordered it so we would have plenty of time to send it back and find a new one if he did not like it. I bought an enhancer for my ring since the traditional band did not fit the shape of the stone.

I had to send my engagement ring with the enhancer so they could size and shape the enhancer with the e-ring. I was suppose to have them back last Thursday but when it came back a few stones were loose. They sent both rings back to be fixed which was only suppose to take 3 days to ship, fix, and return. It has now been 6 days and they still do not have it in. I have not had my e-ring in 3 weeks which is also why I am so upset.

FH resize was no issue, but they can't seem to hold it together to fix my ring and send it back!

Is this normal or is my Zales having a glitch?

I don't trust big jewelry stores like Zales or Kay for this reason. I've heard too many awful stories about them. I had a bad experience with Kay as well, I know that's not what you're asking but I think it's just a problem with bigger stores like those.

I haven't had an issue yet with zales. FH and myself just purchased our wedding bands from there last week and they are being sent out to get engraved and should be here next week. Hoping nothing goes wrong

I don't have much advice to offer other than calling the manager and raising hell.

And bring it to an independent jeweler to appraise when you do get it back, just to make sure there wasn't any funny business going on.

Should I insure it through the independent jeweler too? Or is that even an option?

Insure your ring through your renters/homeowners insurance - you need the appraisal to get the insurance. I think mine added a few dollars per month.

I don't trust these big chains. My MOH had MAJOR drama with Jareds. They lost her ring, replaced with a smaller stone, etc. Definitely insure your ring!! I got mine through Jeweler's mutual. I've had one claim with them so far and they were great and easy to work with! All you need is to have your ring inspected and valued.

I never knew I could insure it that way. Thanks! I'll have to look into it more.

After this mess I will have to. I have called a few times and it takes me 10 minutes of explaining what I need for anyone to be able to help and I still get vague answers as to why I still don't have it.

I'm not a fan of Zales...even though I LOVE my ring, I don't think they have good customer service. When FH and I went to get my engagement ring resized they told me since my stone was big I need to make it "extra tight" or else my stone would wobble too much...I was skeptical and didn't like the fit of the "sizer ring" they put on but I went with them...my ring came back WAY too tight. I don't trust anything they say now.

I haven't had an issue with Zales, but I would be calling and threatening to leave bad reviews, etc if they don't get my ring asap

Kays did similar thing to my cousin. When she finally raised all hell they found out it was lost all together. They replaced it but it was not her original ring

You do realize it was a holiday weekend right? Those 3 days are probably business days which may not include the weekend regularly.

I do realize it was a holiday weekend. Thanks though. I was specifically told it would not have an impact of the timeline with them when I called on Monday to ask the status.

The big box stores like Zales and Kay's etc have a bad reputation for things like this. You should look it up. I think I would make sure my business is done through another company/jeweler. It legit scared FH so much he refused to go to one of them and went local instead.

I would also call up your insurance company and insure the ring(s) through them. I have a personal property plan (when bundled with my other services, its basically free through USAA).

I worked in jewelry for four years and this is normal for Zales. I would highly suggest writing a complaint if they can't get your ring done in the next couple of days. I will only work for AGS companies due to the ethical concerns of companies like Zales (and any of the Sterling Co. stores). The companies I've worked for were very dedicated to customer satisfaction to the point that I have driven rings over state lines to jewelers who were less busy than ours to get something repaired and driven back to the customer.

I'd suggest looking on the AGS website and searching jewelers in your area for future repairs. I'm so sorry you are dealing with this.

Also, maybe the threat of a BBB complaint will but their feet to the fire?

The Zales and Kay companies have received a lot of press lately for terrible business practices. Be careful and inspect your ring carefully when you get it back! Zales has an awful rating on Consumer Affairs https://www.consumeraffairs.com/retail/zales.html .

They may have told you it wouldn't have an impact, they may not know what they are talking about, that may mean no it will still only be 3 business days

If they have no idea what they are talking about, that only affirms my frustration in them.

I have 2 bracelet charms and they both have warranty, I went once because one was broken and they exchanged it to me for one that was very bent and CLEARLY about to break. I asked the girl to please just give me a different one and she refused to do so. I ended up there about two or three weeks later with the replacement and my second charm broken. They started claiming that I didn't have any warranty. Then they told me that it was a one time thing and had already used it (even if that were the case both of my charms had a warranty and I had only replaced one) then they told me that the warranty was x amount of time but that wasn't what they sold my MIL. As I was there dealing with their incompetence some other poor lady came in to pick up her wedding/ engagement rings because she had brought them for cleaning and resizing. She had 3 rings and they gave her 2, she of course started freaking out and they swore up and down that she only gave them 2 and whatever or shit they spewed out. After like an hour and a half ( I was there that long dealing with the whole charms and warranty thing) they found out that the employee she left the rings with gave those 2 rings to a coworker to send it for cleaning and resizing and she sent the other herself separately and because of the way she did it, it was going to take another few weeks to receive it. I can say I don't want to ever step foot in there ever again.

    TL;DR: Zales is a shitshow.
