Your thoughts - last minute invite

HoneyImGallone, on May 11, 2017 at 7:33 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 69

I am not the one that is inviting someone last minute. I got invited to a wedding on Sunday that is happening tomorrow. I got invited threw text by the bride's son (my best friend), but I am not invited to the ceremony, nor am I invited to the dinner part of the reception. I am invited to the dancing part of the reception, and I am invited to the after party. Just wanted to hear your thoughts.

Um absolutely not. You're not even good enough for dinner?! Hell no.

ETA: this is your best friend's mom and you weren't invited from the start? Is that not weird?

So basically they just want you to come hoping you'll show up with a gift in hand

His girlfriend is my other best friend, so I asked her to make sure, and she said that his mom talked to her too, and she did say it was fine

I would pass. In the US, invite to dancing but not dinner, never acceptable. Last minute, only if unusual situation (like you came back from Afghanistan).

It's really up to you. If you think you will enjoy time there...go.

I won't go out of obligation & I think a gift is optional.

If I didn't have any other plans and there was a chance for some cake and a cocktail, I'd go. I wouldn't bring a gift or anything though.

Honestly, I don't even like his mom. I don't like her fiance either. I might just go because I will get to party with my best friends who i never see. They both live in other states.

She didn't invite you in the first place, so I wouldn't go. I would feel like I'm crashing.

It seems like they didn't have it in the budget to include you but your best friends wanted you to be there. If I didn't have plans, I would go but I probably wouldn't bring a present.
