Your Something Old/New/Borrowed/Blue

BeachBride2016, on May 12, 2016 at 10:17 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 28

What are you all using for your something old/new/borrowed/blue?

And, silly question - do those things have to be things you, the bride, are physically wearing in order to stick with the tradition? I'm really having a tough time checking these things off - I am going to wrap the lace from my mom's veil around my bouquet stems as my something old (and maybe I can say it is something borrowed, too?), but does that "count"?

Something old: Piece of my moms wedding dress sowed into the inside of mine.

Something new: dress / shoes / jewelry.

    Something borrowed: My moms garter.

Something blue: Our wedding date sowed into the inside of my dress in blue!

ETA; I'm not sure about your questions as far as tradition goes but I have seen people use their bouquet for something blue or for old picture charms of loved ones for something old.

Old: I hope this is old enough. I have a bracelet with my daughters' birthstones on it, that I got for Mother's Day a few years ago.

New: almost everything is new but specifically my necklace.

Borrowed: I don't know yet, I need to borrow something. My friend suggested an ankle bracelet or something.

Blue: My navy blue shoes and my hair comb has some blue stones in it.

Sixpence in Your Shoe: @TinaBoBina sent me a shiny 2016 penny. I thought of making this my something borrowed, but Tina doesn't want it back LOL. Do you think it's still borrowing I if I plan to pay it forward?

Something old: shoes / maybe an old locket with a tiny pic of my grandpa

Something new: dress / veil / jewelry

Something borrowed: not sure about this, as all my jewelry is new! I may borrow my MOH/sister's handkerchief that I embroidered in blue.

Something blue: my belly ring has a blue bead - that might end up being my something blue!

It depends on how literally you want to take this tradition as a superstition. The original items for some of those four things were stuff that the bride wore on her.

Old/borrowed: I borrowed two handkerchiefs from my parents, and held them with my bouquet.

New: My mom made my necklace for the wedding.

Blue: Almost everything because our wedding colour was royal blue. My bouquet was wrapped in blue ribbon, my shoes had blue rosettes, and my garter had blue ribbon as well. Plus the entire BP was in blue, lol.

If you're wearing a belly ring that you had before your wedding, that can be your something old. Also goes for any piece of jewellery you could wear, or even underwear, haha. The "old" is supposed to represent your previous life, before you got married. And your mom's veil could be the "borrowed".

I wore a new necklace with a blue stone in it. To the chain, I attached my father's wedding band, which I borrowed, of course. It was my grandmother's before that, making it quite old.
