Your dress - was it what you thought you’d pick or something different?

Hi, Everyone!

Just wanted to post a fun topic today for those that have found their dress. How many of you went into your appointment thinking you’d pick one specific silhouette (ballgown, a-line, mermaid, etc.) and you ended up loving something entirely different? Why did you love your dress more than what you THOUGHT you wanted? Just want to hear who had this happen as I thought for sure I would pick an a-line or ballgown style dress and went with a fit-to-flare/mermaid!

I ended up in a fit and flare with a fun back detail and straps, just like I thought I would. However, the dress was much more satin than I had imagined (I was leaning toward more lace). I did, however, end up with a totally different dress for our adventure shoot after all the changes of last year — big, billowy skirt and lace top.

I was torn between the ball gown that is poofy and the trumpet that hits me in all the right places and makes me have curves. so I got both my ceremony dress is a davids bridal ball gown that is poofy and I love it and the reception dress is a trumpet

I went in convinced I was looking for a sexy, old Hollywood style sheath or trumpet dress. I had my heart set on a Calla Blanche. I picked several to try on & had my entourage pick whatever they wanted me to try on (whatever style…it didn’t matter). There was an Essence ball gown that everyone wanted me to try on “just for fun.” So I agreed that it would be the finale dress. Never in a million years did I think I’d ever pick a ball gown. Well, I ended up hating all the dresses I tried on except a beautiful Jenny Yoo sheath dress. I decided it was “the one.” Then I tried on the “finale dress” and BOOM! I still cannot believe I am going to wear a sparkling, off-the-shoulder, princess ball gown with a cathedral train.

    HI there!

Yes and No. I always LOVED LACE!(So i thought) I thought for sure a lace dress was a must... however, I LOVE a simple/ elegant silk or satin sweetheart. Something about the simplicity/elegance is so attractive to me. When I went into the bridal shop I pulled a lace dress I LOVED online! When I tried it on... I quickly realized lace was NOT FOR ME! It did not do my figure justice! I ended up with a gorgeous simple. elegant sweetheart Mikado trumpet. The simplicity/elegance of it made me fall in love. It also fit me like a glove when I tried it on!

It's your day, so of course, you can wear whatever you like! White dresses have only been a thing since Queen Victoria's time, which is only 180 years ago - they haven't been the norm for the thousands of years marriage has been a thing prior to that.

I knew I wanted something simple (no bling, no lace, no embellishment), sweetheart neckline, strapless, and either ballroom or a-line and I ended up with precisely that. I did *not* expect to fall in love with an empire waist, but that's what I had.

I knew I wanted an A-line dress that was lightweight (not super easy to find, anyone else blown away by the number of layers in an A-line skirt??), because I am hiking up a mountain before changing into the dress, and then walking around on uneven ground for photos, so I wanted to be able to move! I did try on a few different styles, just to be 100% sure. Ended up with a gorgeous, A-line gown that makes me feel incredible!

Wow! Thanks for all of these stories, ladies! I know exactly what you all mean. I had a bunch of ballgowns and “big” dresses on my list to try on and as I tried them on, I noticed that they didn’t really do ANYTHING for my figure! I ended up choosing a silhouette that made me feel way more beautiful, bridal, mature, and statuesque! I posted two photos to compare the difference… Funny how that happens!

Mine is about half what I thought I wanted and half surprise! I thought I wanted a ball gown or a-line with sleeves and that’s what I got however, the 3D florals where originally a no item when I went looking I didn’t want a princess dress. I actually told the stylist at the bridal salon I wanted to feel powerful not princess-y. And I actually tried the dress on in black! Made it a very VERY hard choice. I ended up with blush because it went with our theme and decor better but man I love my dress and I think about it in black often .

I was open-minded on silhouette, but I knew I wanted ivory, and my bridesmaids convinced me to try on blush pretty early, which I did just to humor them. I was shocked that I loved it, and everyone else did, too. Sure enough, after that, none of the ivory gowns stood up to blush, and that's the direction I ended up going.

I had been eyeing one particular dress for weeks, so I went in already having a clear favorite. I tried on a few different styles, more for my family than anything else, because as soon as I tried on that dress, I knew I was buying it. Plus it was 65% off, and I love a good deal!
