Anyone out there a "young" bride? I was 21 when I got engaged, and will be 23 when I get married. My fiance is a year older than me. I feel like there is a lot of negativity associated with getting married at what is considered a young age. I also think a lot of people are just expecting our marriage to not last. We've been together almost 5 years, have lived together for a year, and have been through a lot together. I also feel like we are mature for our age, not that I have to justify my engagement. Anyone else experience a negative reaction for getting engaged young?

That’s what my Baba (grandma) said too.. I know she only means well, but it’s disheartening to hear that people think you’re just rushing

We’ve gotten a lot of rude comments as well (I am 20, FH is 23). We’re secure in our decision to get married, and only value the opinions of those closest to us (who are happy for us!). People are SO judgmental about weddings and marriages. It used to really get to me, but then I realized if they weren’t criticizing our ages, they’d be criticizing our venue, my dress, the cake, etc. The best advice I’ve gotten is to just be secure in your decision, and use this as motivation to prove the naysayers wrong and have a beautiful, happy marriage!

I don't find any negativity marrying at young age. You shouldn't give importance to what the people say. I believe we shouldn't care about the people talks and their thoughts. Do whatever you want to do.

My husband and I are both 19. We paid for our entire $25,000 wedding ourselves in cash (not because parents couldn’t afford, but simply they didn’t have the money). I struggled a lot with vendors taking me seriously, they always asked to speak to my mom as if she was paying for it.

My family and friends have tried to be supportive but have made comments about how we’re too young. Here’s my advice, just brush it off and show them. My husband and I are both in college and work out butts off. We want to show everyone in 5 years that we have advanced degrees, didn’t have a honeymoon baby (like several people have assumed we’re going to do), and are doing well financially and relationally.

We we live downtown Chicago where the average age to get married is somewhere around 30-35. I am a nanny and the family I work for was shocked when I told them I was getting married. The mom later told her daughter (the one I watch) that she would never allow her to get married this young because it’s irresponsible. I babysit a lot and I’ve started referring to my husband as my boyfriend to new families I watch for. I know it’s bad, but I’m just done with having to explain myself. (Doesn’t help I look like I’m 12 lol)

My advise is to be confident in your choice in marriage and ignore everyone else. If you show everyone you’re confident in it, they’ll eventually come around (or at least not make comments). You got this 💪🏼 Message me if you need support

Thank you Lauren. We are paying for our wedding in cash as well all by ourselves. Family keeps questioning if we can afford it and such. I just have told them we're not stupid and wouldn't be doing it if we couldn't afford it. I'm slowly learning to ignore the negative people and am leaning on the positive

I got engaged at 19 and was married at 22. That marriage didn't last but produced a beautiful son. My ex was 2 yrs older than me. Some people were surprised that we were so young. I'm now 30 and my wedding is in 2 yrs. My FH is a yr younger than me and we just had a baby. There isn't a perfect age to get married. Don't let tge negativity get you down.
