Yet another gripe about my photographer. How long should it take to get e-pics back?

Mrs. Turner2B, on October 23, 2010 at 8:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

My contract says 3 weeks. My photographer did tell me she's been swamped and may take a bit longer to get them to me (she's been swamped since summer, but summer is over so wtf?) and I told her that's okay but can she send me some sneak peaks first so I can choose one for our reception room and she said it wil be fine. I told her as far as the rest..I don't mind if we get them even 2 weeks before the wedding and she made it sound like she'd get them to us a lot sooner than that. Well, it's been 4 weeks since the wedding...I email her asking when I can get those sneak peaks and she says "I'm not sure, I'm very swamped..I'm thinking 2 weeks." That's one week before the wedding..just for sneak peaks!!! Does it really take that long?

I hope those picss are freakin gorgeous cus I have stuck with this photographer just for her work...not her customer service. And she's paid in full so I can't even back out.

Wow. That's pretty crummy that she can't stick to her own contract or verbal promises. I had my pics taken on Monday, got our sneak peek (posted on the blog) last night (Friday)... and they've been so swamped that we only had 2 date options for pics this month plus I can see how many other occassions they've posted sneek peeks of on their blog! (at least 1 wedding and another e-session within 10 days of our session) ...Good luck!

Wow I am so sorry Smiley sad I hate flaky photographers. They are supposed to have at least one month to work on pictures. I had free photo session for my deployed FS and a month later, she was done. I am trying to end the contract with my flaky photographer and found a amazing photographer that she said it takes a month to edit the pictures and etc. I had to get rid of flaky photographer even I signed the contract but I can't have more stress to my wedding and she haven't reach me for a month now. This is third time she have done that :-/.

"I'm swamped" is probably the most unprofessional response someone can possibly have. She put herself in the situation by taking on more than she can handle and now her clients must deal with her mistakes. It just isn't fair.

I can say that for myself, it doesn't take that long at all. Engagement pictures take about 2 weeks. I usually have a wedding teaser available the day after the wedding. Wedding picture teasers are sporadic over a 2-3 week period. Final images are contracted to be completed within 90, but it is always sooner than that.

@Kerri.,..that's exactly how I feel...she shouldn't have taken on more than she can handle. I would never refer her to anyone. I'm hoping that I love the photos she took because if I don't..I'm gonna feel so stupid for sticking with her when I couldve backed out months ago before I sent in the balance.

@Miss Cupcake....if you have someone else you can trust..I say definitely do the switch or you'll be dealing with the kind of stuff I've been dealing with just weeks before your wedding.

I really do hope she compensates you for the trouble. I'm sorry you have to go through this.

I agree that she should defintely compensate you for the trouble. Our photographer said she usually takes a week to get her editing done because she typically only does one event per weekend. Unfortunately due to scheduling on our end, she ended up having a wedding on saturday followed by our engagement on sunday. It took her two weeks to get us our photographs (and she was apologizing profusely - even though I told her she should just take her time. The wedding photos needed to be done first).

Well, that is a royal pain.

I haven't been on much lately, and don't think I have congratulated you yet, so Congratulations. Hope it was a wonderful day.

You should call her as soon as possible and voice your concerns. Be sure to be calm (even though I know you are incredibly annoyed by now). Explain to her that you are required to abide by your signed contract and she is certainly expected to do the same. Tell her that you feel that she does not value you as a client. Make a point to tell her that you hope that the engagement pictures scenario will not be a taste of what is to come (in regards to your wedding photos).

For me, it can take up to 8 weeks, but my clients realize this, and they don't mind it taking that long because they know they will love their images. Now, if my clients need them by a certain date, I make sure I do that, even if I am swamped (and I usually am). I ask them after the shoot how quickly they need them. I do try to get sneak peeks done within a week, but right now, it's taking a lot longer because I have around 20 weddings and sessions to edit.

We had our engagement pictures taken on October 16th. Within two hours of the session ending, our photographer had two professionally edited "sneak peeks" available. Then she was off to her next session. =) She is booked solid for the entire month of October, but said that it would take anywhere from 3-6 weeks--but that she always normally gets the pictures done way before the 5-6 week mark.

I would call her right away. I know our photographer said it would take 3 weeks to get our photos back. She emailed me last week to let me know she was finished doing most of the editing and that we should have them next week.

@Kerri...the thing is..I don't want to tell her I'm unhappy because she seems like the kind of lady who would not take constructive criticism well..I'm worried about pissing her off right before the wedding and then have my pictures turn out like crap. I think the only choice I have right now is stick with her and when it's over...write an honest review of what it was working with her.

I just wanted to see if I'm being unreasonable for asking for sneak peaks after 4 weeks. These are just sneak peaks for goodness sake!!

Don't tell her you are unhappy with the pics. Tell her you need them prior to that. You understand she is swamped and you are sorry she took on more clients than she could handle- but you need some of the pics.

You are having them displayed at your reception- half the point of doing e-pics, and can't wait until the week of the wedding for them.

You are not at all being unreasonable. He own contract states 3 weeks- for all of them, not just sneak peaks.

I'd be pushing a bit harder for them at this point!! All of them, not just sneak peaks. Maybe she can let you see them, then choose which ones you want her to edit for immediate printing.

@Meghan...I did do this. I emailed her back and asked her if I can get them sooner. I told her I understand that she's busy but I thought we had an understanding on the day of the shoot that I would need them atleast 2 weeks before the wedding since I'll be using them for my reception room. I told her I will also be swamped the week before the wedding with out of town guests and last minute details and asked if she can send me the sneak peaks a lot sooner than then a week before. She emailed back with. "I'll try my best". Argh!!! I'm just gonna let it go. Truth is I can't make her give me the photos earlier..so I'll let it go...if worse comes to worse, I will use one of my Dodger Stadium e-shoot pics but I plan to tell this photographer exactly how displeased I was and how stressful she made my wedding planning!
