Yes, another tipping question!

Caitlin , on October 15, 2019 at 6:21 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
Our wedding reception includes all the food and wait staff. Believe gratuity is included in our bill. Do we tip extra? Do we tip the waitstaff and bartender separate?

ceremony - at the same place as ceremony but we need cars to bring all the guests there as it’s up to a Mountain View. Should we tip the car service?

the venue comes with a coordinator that’s been helping up tremendously- do we tip her?

florist- owns her own business but she is doing all the setup. Do we tip her? Is thank you card with gift card ok?

photographer - her and her husband own their business. Do we tip extra?

dj- is a friend of ours and he owns his business. Thank you card and gift card ok

hair and makeup - obv will tip

cake vendor- included in our reception bill. Do we tip them?

thanks!!

These are all questions I have as well! Lol. Or do the guests tip bartender? How do these things work?! 🤷‍♀️

All tips are included in my prices for the venue, but should we extra tip? So then also guest should tip as well. That makes sense. But I think FH and I extra tipping would be kind of redundant since it’s included in our price. I’m going to have to ask my planner next time we see her!

    Hey there Caitlin!

As gratuity is included in your bill with the venue, I would clarify with them who/what that covers. Once you know who isn’t covered, you decide what amounts to tip each.

This WeddingWire article provides a thorough guide on who to tip and what amounts, check it out - Exactly How Much To Tip Wedding Vendors: A Complete List.

The 20% includes just for the set up and all that. We are going to tip each server about $50 and bartender possibly unless our guests tip a lot

Our coordinator came with the venue and she’s been helping out a great deal. What would an appropriate tip be?

Yes, guests should tip the bartender, even for a hosted soda, beer or wine.

As a venue coordinator is included with the venue, they don't typically receive a tip. If you would like to tip her, the amount is completely at your discretion. Would you be happy tipping her as you would a photographer, videographer or officiant as per the guide?

If you've gotten to know her personally during the time planning, perhaps you could get her a gift to say thank you?

This is not a popular opinion but weddings are already expensive enough without crazy tipping thrown on top but I’m not planning on tipping any of my vendors who own their own business (self-employed). They are getting the total value I’m paying for their services and should have priced it appropriately (and I’m not using the lowest cost bid vendors so definitely paying for quality services). So my photographer, DJ, and wedding planner I won’t plan on tipping. I’ll get them a nice card and thank you gifts.. I’ll tip servers /vendor staff and anyone who works for a company or is not self-employed (so if my HMUA brings an assistant, I’ll tip, etc.). If I gave 20% on all of these services I’d be paying at least an extra $2k. No thank you.

I gave our vendors who own their business $100 each. Not 20%. Just as a gift. We asked the coordinator how much to tip the serves and she said $50 each. And we gave her $200. I think it all worked out ok!
