WWWWD? Help with DJ

Chantel, on August 12, 2015 at 3:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hello all,

I need to decide on a DJ. I've received quotes from two different companies that are very comparable.

Company #1:

DJ and photo booth comes to $1862.70 after tax for 8 hours.

No travel cost

He will service our ceremony, if required, at no cost (incl. microphone for officiant)

Got a really good vibe from them

Smaller company

Company #2:

DJ and photo booth comes to $2003.40 after fees and tax for 8 hours

Travel cost $60/hour

They have back-up DJs and equipment in case of emergency

Got a really good vibe from them

Bigger company

What would you do??

That is my next step. I am going to ask him right away if he has a back up plan and maybe that will help us decide. I could ask for references, I am basically going off reviews online. One of my bridesmaids used company #2 and was happy with them. If I can save a couple hundred bucks, I'd like to, lol.

Ok, I just got off the phone with company #1. He does have a back up/in case of emergency plan, so that's good to know. He happily provided a bunch of extra information to try and help me decide. We might meet with him when we head up to Edmonton this weekend.

If anyone else has any pointers or other things I should be thinking about, please let me know Smiley smile

Ask both companies if they provide liability insurance. How they motivate the crowd if no one is dancing and how early they arrive to set up. You already got an in person review from your bridesmaid it seems like. Its just about who you click with more.

@Willie - excuse my ignorance, but what would a DJ need to provide liability insurance for?

I believe company #2 told me they arrive 2 hours early to set up and the other company offered to do ceremony services so I am sure he would arrive at least 2 hours early as well, but I will confirm. Company #2 also described in detail how they get the crowd into it and how they tailor their set lists to keep people motivated and engaged. I will ask company #1 about that.

DJ's need liability insurance for the same reason we all carry car insurance. In case a speaker explodes and burns the hall down, or a little kid is running around trips on a cable and the whole table falls on him their insurance would cover costs.
