WW Book Club Discussion - The Husband's Secret

Katy, on March 7, 2016 at 12:33 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 103

Hey everyone! Sorry I'm starting this a little later due to a morning meeting.

This month we read The Husband's Secret by Liana Moriarty. Let's start simple and I'll throw in a few discussion questions as we go! What did you rate the book (1, low - 5, high) and what are your overall thoughts?

If you'd like to make a recommendation for March, I will be taking a few nominations. I'll create a new poll tomorrow.

I loved it. I actually read it last summer but listened to the audio version when it was chosen for this month. It was very thought-provoking.

I'd rate the book a 4. I really enjoyed it and I'm a huge fan now of Liana Moriarty after this and Little Big Lies!

    Yay, book club!!!

I think I'd give it a 3. It was definitely a page turner, and it flows pretty quickly. The story was interesting, and I grew to like a few characters. I was genuinely intrigued for most of the book.

I really liked it, I would say 4 too.

I found it a bit slow to start and felt myself rushing over the words a little. But once I got midway, I got really invested and by close to the end I was in love with this book and couldn't stop myself from reading it! The ending/epilogue was a highlight for me, I really loved how they finished the story and talked about what could have been.

My god though, I was shocked about Polly. Didn't see that coming.

I rated it a 3, but I did really like it. I believe it was a 3 and not a 4 because it reminded me of a Lifetime movie, but a really good lifetime movie that I couldn't stop watching. Haha.

I rated it as a 4 as well - I really enjoyed it.

Overall, I felt like I could relate to all 3 ladies in some way...Cecelia's need to be perfect & dependable at all times, Rachel smiling on the inside will secretly suffering and Tess' destructive behavior as a way to cope with being hurt. It made for a really insightful read.

I love this book! I would give it a 5. Definitely a page turner! Has anyone read "nobody has sex on a tuesday". I randomly bought this book at the Norway airport and read it on the flight home! Easy read.

I also agree with Mrs. Goose, in that it took me awhile to really get into the book. I still give the book a 4 because once I got into the book it was a real pageturner.

I gave it 3 stars, but I really enjoyed it. It was a fun quick read and reminded me how much I like chick lit every now and then.

I didn't realized until I finished it, but I've read two other books by the same author.

I would give it a 4. The end completely got me. He didn't really kill her, it was her heart! I agree that at the beginning I was getting confused with the constant jumping between characters and story lines, but when I finally started putting them all together and figuring out how each was connected, I got hooked.

Yes! The ending and how it all came together really got me. With Polly, hearing more about Janie and how she really died...gah. So drama. I wanted to hear more!

Interesting. I give the book a 3. I hated the epilogue! It almost killed the story for me, as I found it dismissive to the rest of the plot. I enjoyed some of the characters, but some of it was a little campy/chicks for me. Tess's storyline was my favorite.

The epilogue was so interesting! It made me feel even worse about Polly Smiley sad and I also wondered if Janie's family would have had more closure/less pain if she had been home (or on the bus?) and died there, from that genetic disorder she had.

ETA: I also liked Tess better Smiley smile not sure if I would have also had the crazy affair with the PE teacher, lol, but otherwise I liked her way better.

I know, VM! Of course you would do an autopsy on a young girl that died! Didn't they say her mom just didn't want an extensive autopsy? I feel like Rachel was a little neurotic though. Am I the only one?
