Wrong food received at reception

Courtney, on November 19, 2018 at 9:01 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

Hey Brides-

I recently had my wedding and at the reception, the caterer brought out the complete wrong chicken option. Not at all what we tasted - wrong cut of chicken (we specifically requested no bones) and wrong sauce/dish prep. I asked for a discount but the money that the caterer offered was laughable. Has anyone ever been in this situation? What did you ask for slash what did the caterer offer?

Is there someone higher up you could talk to? That is unacceptable! First, it's not what you paid for, and second, that could have been a huge safety/liability issue. What if you choose the meal option you were supposed to receive because of allergy/dietary restrictions?

    Do you have a contract?

Did you ask for a specific discount or did they just offer you something? Assuming the chicken was just one menu option, and the food was received, eaten, and enjoyed by guests who maybe didn't know it wasn't what you ordered, I would expect a 10 to 20% discount/refund on the overall bill. If the dishes were plated and billed separately that way, maybe 50% off the chicken dishes only? At the end of the day, if you got chicken served and the guests enjoyed/consumed it, you got something of value from the caterer.

Hi Courtney! Welcome to WeddingWire! I am so sorry to hear that this happened! As mentioned above, did you have a contract with your caterer that clearly outlined what they would be serving at your wedding? Also, I would go to upper-management if possible to try and find out what went wrong! Maybe you tasted a seasonal dish, or simply, there was a mixup and they made a mistake! Regardless, I think you deserve some clarity on the situation! I think your best bet is to reach out to them to seek answers, and also ask the cost of the dish served in comparison to what you paid, and ask for them to cover the difference? I hope everything works out! Smiley heart

Is the food you were supposed to be served in the contract you signed? If so, I'd take them to small claims for a full refund of every item cost that was incorrect.

Well this is a bit different situation but when I got to my venue and looked at my wedding cake I was surprised as I didn't recognize the second tier. It was definitely not what I ordered (on the exterior - the actual cake was just fine)! I had paid an upcharge to get a particular design on that tier. Initially the baker offered a VERY small discount. Eventually we settled on a refund equal to the upcharge cost plus tax and 22% service charge and free delivery (so probably overall like 10-15% off my bill). I was okay with that as the cake was still beautiful, no one had any idea there was error and I got a ton of compliments on the taste..... though occasionally I do sometimes wonder if I was entitled to more?!

As everyone stated I'd pull out my contract. That's really unacceptable and I'd be asking for higher up or small claims court would be next
