Writing vows that won't make you cry while you read/say them.

So...FH and I have started discussing the actual ceremony, and we decided that we want to write our own vows. For those of you who have, and are emotionally...sensitive (I cry at the drop of a hat, SERIOUS crier here.)...how on EARTH do you write something meaningful that isn't going to make you cry...

This is the only thing I am truly worried about!!!

    My advice, as always.

Four short lines about what you love about your partner

Four more short lines about what you promise to do to keep your marriage strong.

    The end.

And I find that guests love personalized vows (and ceremony). At least that's what they tell me. ...Almost every week.

I've never been a fan of non personalized vows.

I don't like the idea of using someone else's words to express how we feel, so that's why we want to write our own.

I definitely want to keep them short, and I've got some ideas flowing now that I've started thinking about it. I have plenty of time though, 125 days!

For those who don't want to write their own vows; one of my couples told me they wanted to use very traditional 'repeat after me' style vows (minus the obey part and the death part) in the middle of their fairly untraditional wedding ceremony. They felt that repeating words that couples had said through antiquity added a note of gravity to their ceremony.

    Just a thought.

Probably 3/4 of my couples use the traditional vows (minus 'obey').
