Would you bring a gift to an engagement party?

...even if the invitation specifically said 'Best Wishes Only'? (aka no gifts).

Depending on the venue, I'd probably bring a bottle of wine. I've been to a few engagement parties that were like hosted happy hours, and those were definitely not gift giving occasions. At the couple's (or their parents') home I would bring wine.

I would never show up at a party empty handed, despite my screen name. I would bring a bouquet of flowers or a bouqet of balloons, or a bridal magazine and six pack of beer or a bottle of wine. I would also bring the hostess a small gift...but thats just what i do.
