Would it look more like a costume than a Groom's outfit

Maribel , on July 2, 2014 at 5:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

We are having a Mexican Theme wedding and I would LOVE for the FH to wear a mariachi outfit!! I think the pictures would look soo AWESOME and ROMANTIC!! and it goes with the theme! He's totally on board with wearing one if he looks good in it. My question is.. does it come off more of a costume.. if you were walking in to our wedding would it be weird and confusing seeing the Groom in a Mariachi outfit? Just curious.. (the picture is an example i found that I fell in LOVE with!! )

    Costume.

If I saw this at a wedding I would probably laugh. That being said, I'll be wearing a Chinese gown at one of my ceremonies and people may think the same about me. So what... do what makes you happy.

I think it looks kind of odd. Maybe he could wear a regular suit/tux for the ceremony - then change for the reception?

My best friend's husband was going to wear his mariachi outfit for their wedding, but he is an actual mariachi.

I think it would be too costumey.

That would look a little gimmicky. He could probalby wear a western cut suit. But hey if he wants to wear it and you don't mind him wearing it I say go for it. Maybe you could do it for your engagement photos

Maybe wear the Mariachi jacket with regular pants and boots? I don't know...if your whole wedding is themed, it will look great. If it's just him (and/or his GM) then it's a little strange...

    What does your FH say?

Is there a reason for your theme? Like are you or FH part of that heritage? Maybe you can take some pics with the hat to make it "Mariache" but be in a mostly normal suit the rest of the time?

Comes off a little costume-y... maybe just one element of of the Mariachi theme? like coming out with a hat at the introductions?

but it's your wedding and if it makes you happy i say go for it Smiley smile

If he doesn't play in a Mariachi, then I think it's too costume-y.

Feels a little too costumey for me too. Will you have a Mariachi band? I would ask that they dress traditionally and you capture them in some of the pictures with you and your husband.

BTW, the bottom of the bride's dress is that pic is amazing!

Unfortunately, I do think it looks really costumey. I can see why you like it-- the first picture is totally romantic, but it looks like its probably from a styled shoot, and not a real wedding.

How about incorporating some of the elements-- like maybe he could wear a black tuxedo to keep the overall look more classic/timeless, but then have him wear it with a red bow tie and cummerbund to add the Mariachi flair??

What if he wore the hat only at the reception (not the ceremony)?

The top pic looks as though the bride sneaked away with a member of the mariachi band (he doesn't look like her groom)!

I do think it's costumey, but he will stick out. Maybe just have him wear the hat at the reception when you enter or when he's dancing. The theme shouldn't over power your wedding...you want to be able to look back in 20 years and think of the wedding photos as wedding photos and not have it confused for another day.

It is a costume. However, if he changed into this for the reception that would be really a "WOW" moment I would think. For the ceremony, just keep him in a normal suit or tux.

If I came to your wedding and saw the groom dressed in it, I would be quite confused about it. I would think your marrying one of the musician's from the band. To keep it simple a suit/tux would do just fine!

Well the FH says if I really want him to wear one he will. We both share a mexican heritage and I think the Mariachi is a huge part of the culture. But that was my fear that it would look like he's with the mariachi band because we are having one too lol THANK GUYS! Well I'll let you all know what we decide to do Smiley smile

In that case, can you make sure he looks different from the guys in the mariachi band (different color suit/tie/hat -- whatever)? Just so it doesn't look as though you're kissing a member of the band, LOL!
