I think that a photographers book would be higher quality. I am happy with my shutterfly book for my engagement photos though. 1000 is steep for an album in my opinion. My photographer charges between 200-500 for an album.
As one other note--you might want to check whether your photographer has a provision in her contract that developing the pictures has to go through her (i.e. you agree not to take her work and then develop them somewhere else). I think technically that shutterfly/snapfish/etc would violate something like that. Ours has such a provision, though she gives the option of buying a high resolution dvd for a set amount, at which point we own all the rights (instead of her) and can develop at will.
@Brian: Does the print quality vary by album price or spec? I believe Analy got an album and the prints didn't turn out crisp (like the final edited files).
Brian, I really loved her photo albums....but if I could find it cheaper, i would. but I think when it comes to our album....you get what you pay for, eh?

Jennifer- Here are some pics of the hard-cover photobook I ordered from Shutterfly. Just so you can see an example. I think it is awesome!! You can personalize them any way you like, I personalized the front back cover, and the spine of the book. (and of course the inside lol)
All I have to take pics is my cell, and I just noticed these are so blurry! Im sorry hopefully you can see them ok though...
@ Brain: I never thought of that! I always assumed that when photographers said disk included that the photo's were the appropriate sizes for printing not just webpages. I wonder if a client specifially asks for large enough photos if the photographer will do this. Its kinda crappy to provide small pictures. Do they do it so we will purchase the pictures through them?
So glad my FIL and his co-photographer are our wedding photographers for the wedding, so the only thing we're paying for is the actual cost of the photos we want & the album. Got so lucky!
I don't think that there is anything wrong with it at all. I know that its important to have pictures that you are happy with, but let's be honest, how often do you really think that you are going to get these pictures out after you initally show everyone...maybe on your anniversary each year? I have made several photobooks from Shutterfly and they are all great quality and I was able to personalize them to my liking.

I was so impressed when I found Shutterfly, I hadn't seen the quality yet but I am loving the pics that Ana posted!! I am using them after our wedding. My pics aren't going to be done professionally but I'll have nice shots from a friend. & I am going to make a Shutterfly account for my family & friends to upload their images to
I'd be interested to see what a book that costs 34K looks like. My sister paid $500 for her flush mount book...it is of great quality with leather case and engraving and came out ansolutely beautiful. I wouldn't pay 1k either.
I have all my photos and disc with copyright/printing rights. I made up photo books with Shutterfly (free thanks to David's Bridal), Kodak Gallery and Mypublisher.com. By far Mypulisher.com had the best books. Also just read reviews that rated them excellent.
We just received our 40 page, 15 x 11.5 book with our Vegas photo tour pics and everyone who has seen it thinks it is fabulous. We did linen cover, but they also come with leather or hardcover. Even though I have ceremony photobook, I am going to do another 15" one on mypublisher.com to match the one we just received. While these photobooks are not like flushmount albums, they certainly present the photos beautifully and at a reasonable price, especially with coupons I keep getting.
