Would a clear strap bra work with my dress?

Isabelle, on September 12, 2010 at 11:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

My dress has an open back. And I need an actual bra because I'm a D cup...having cups sewn in won't do it. I'm wondering if a clear strap bra is the solution.

The Dress:

Hmm.. I am never a fan of clear straps.. I feel like yo can always see them.. And they make the skin look... bumpy?? Not saying you are fat.. but it always seems to push down on the skin and make any little fat there is stick out.. is there a store you could go try it on first?

I'd get a stapless, backless bra. You need more support, and you can see the clear straps. Something like this (not neccesarily this brand or anything):

Pretty dress. Did you buy the dress yet? What did you wear when you tried it on? The sides of that bra may show through the cutout. I would say buy it and try it. You can get low back corsets that might work.

    Or these...

But you need something with more support... you will be dancing and stuff all night.

I could see this working with the dress, since the back won't show the strap that goes on the waist. But I don't know if the clear straps will show through the top straps with your dress, it could shine through.

Definitely NO CLEAR STRAP. I have one, and its fine to wear with a backless shirt or what not, but NOT a formal wedding gown. i personally thing showing bra = trashy. clear or not it totally ruins the look you are going for with that gorgeous gown!!!

Love the dress - I agree with Meghan I think you will need something that has more support if you are a D cup size and you should be able to find one that has a low enough back to hide under the dress. The clear straps, 1 may not be strong enough and snap (I've had that happen to me a couple times actually and I'm only a B cup) and 2 could slip up if you are dancing and moving around a lot making them visible against your back.

Eek...I love the dress but I agree with some of the other ladies. No clear strap bra! It's not invisible, and the strips of shiny plastic across your back are very noticeable...not to mention that they'll pinch any ounce of fat you have. Not cute. What did you wear when you tried on the dress?

Amy W. and Rosie - Yes I bought the dress. When I tried it on I was wearing a regular strapless bra. Obviously that's not going to work.

I'd go with what Meagan suggested, it's far more appropriate for a wedding gown. Clear strap bras don't work so perfectly. I am a D cup & we couldn't get it to work for me with my prom dress at all. I ended up having to wear a strapless bra & it drove me nuts. Now that I am older, I can tolerate a strapless bra but then I couldn't. LOL

You can ALWAYS still see a clear strap. Also something to think about, if it's going to be the list bit warm at your wedding (nervousness, dancing, etc.), you may sweat, and the plastic and moisture... just not a good combo. I've had some that actually steam up a little on me. Either that or you just get fun friction issues...

Please get a low-back bra instead. It will be worth the money, if just for the extra support for your ta-tas!

I just got a stickey bra at target that is backless and strapless that you should try. it looks like chicken breasts on your boobs.lol. my friend that is a 38ddd yes tripple D suggested since she has one. it is SUPER sticky. i am not a fan of bra straps of any kind showing especially at a wedding. bras in my opinion are to be worn and not seen. Ihope you find the right one !!! Have you got your dress yet ?

Sorry I don't like "clear straps" they're really not strapless just shiny and they cut into your skin and create more sweat... the other strapless just cup bra doesn't lift or tuck anything. As a D cup myself I like to feel that something is being held mayb a very low back strapless bra

The bra with the clear straps looks like the are not low enough to not show and it would not look good. Megan's idea looked the best.

NO to the clear straps. That would look BAD! Low, backless bra will offer as much support and not look trashy. Sorry for being harsh.. but that would be a big mistake.

I really appreciate all the help! I'm NOT going to get the clear strap bra but rather a low back one. However I noticed that the low backed bra linked above does NOT come in the size I normally require: 32D. I might try a 34C, but does anyone have any other suggestions?
