Would 40ish minutes driving distance between ceremony and reception bother you?

Hi everyone Smiley smile

Just wanted to get some honest opinions and advice. My partner and I are in the very very early stages of planning a wedding (currently gathering ideas) and we have a reception site that we both love and just today he emailed me a link to where he thinks would be a nice ceremony site.

I think it looks really pretty, my only problem is the two venues are about 40minutes a part and I don't know if it's a bit much asking guests to drive that far between venues?

The ceremony site is in Gallaway TN but the reception will be in Memphis TN where 90% of the guests are from. Again it's still really early planning stages with nothing locked in but just wanted peoples opinions Smiley smile

We are looking at Carahills estate II Manor for the ceremony and the Cadre Building in Memphis TN for the reception

I don't think it too far.

But then again my reception and church are about 30-35 mins away from each other.

It's a very rural area and there no other choice. I feel like adults can suck it up for one day. I have never and will never complain I have driven 45-1 for a wedding before (between ceremony location and reception location) If it has meaning for the couple then it's none of my business.

Thanks everyone for the honest feedback, it was pretty much what I was thinking Smiley smile

We have our hearts set on the venue in the city for our reception however we wouldn't want to have the ceremony there as well so will just have to look elsewhere. Thanks again everyone Smiley smile

I don't think it's too much, but I'm used to having 45 min - 1 hour long trips for work/shopping/etc (we live in a rural area).

But my question would be, since the reception site is closer to where most people live, would you be sad if these people opted to only attend the reception and not go to your ceremony? I've seen this happen opulently of times. The ceremony is 45 mins away, but the reception is a 15 min trip down the road so people skip the ceremony and the bride is usually pretty sad.

I wouldn't mind it, especially because you are putting the reception in the city where most people live. My thought would be to ask those that are closest to you how they would feel about the drive and their thoughts on the whole thing.

I think its pretty far. but annie^ is right, if they don't want to do it, they won't do it. overall, it is your day and if that's the perfect ceremony/ reception site for you guys, only the most important people will probably come, and that's ok!Smiley smile

Some of my guests live in Phoenix, some 30 minutes away from our town. Our reception is probably 30 minutes from the ceremony. We don't have anything set in stone, so we are still not sure.

Thank you Ladies Smiley smile We have actually chosen another venue, we have both fallen in love with the church and the better news is, it's only 15 minutes away from the venue. So thank you for all the feedback as I am not sure if we would have kept on looking or not Smiley smile

Since you're asking on a public forum I will give you my honest answer. Yes, it's too far. 30 mins max otherwise I'm just coming to your reception. Sorry!

It is a bit far, I would probably look for a different site for the ceremony if I were you.

Im making them all drive 40 mins, no one cares. In NYC, that travel time is more expected though, unless its a venue with ceremony and reception site, no biggie.
