Worried about my dress size!

Shelby , on November 13, 2017 at 10:49 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

So I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding next month and I? have a size 2 dress that fits perfectly.... my own wedding is coming in June and i was just sized for it at a size 6..? Weird there's such a difference but she says some wedding dress sizes run small? I'm nervous! Obviously i can get it altered but i feel like it's going to bereally big on me causing extra alterations. Should i be concerned ?

Sounds about right! Wedding dresses typically run in European sizes. I'm a size 6, but needed a size 10 wedding dress Smiley smile

I'm the same as Jennifer. I am a size 8 regularly, and purchased a a size 12 wedding dress.

I'm also a size 2 and the dress that they ordered for me was a size 6! She took my measurements and let me see the size chart and all of my measurements lined up with a 6, so that's the one I ordered. I heard you can be anywhere from 2-6 (or more) sizes bigger than your normal street clothes, so I wouldn't put too much thought into it.

Styles and designers vary, but yes generally wedding dresses run small. I'm normally about a 14 and my dress had to be ordered in a 20! You can have her double check to be sure, but it might be correct.

They'll order the dress based on the biggest measurement, in my case since my dress is a mermaid it was ordered based on my hip measurement mainly. The top needed serious alterations, but the hips fit perfectly.

I'm a 10 in my wedding dress, and in a bridesmaid dress for another company I fit into a 6. And in another, I fit into a 16. Not even kidding. The sizes vary immensely. Like PPs said, don't worry too much, just make sure they have your correct measurements!

Wedding dresses can run up to two sizes smaller then bridesmaid and special occasion dresses. I wear size 8 in regular dresses but a size 12 wedding dress. It's totally normal

Depends on the manufacturer. My bridal gown was a size two and when I asked the lady who measured me about why wasn't it larger than my street size (also size 2), she said that designer did not mark up sizes. She did show me my measurements and the measurements of the size 2. So totally depends on who made your dress, but I have heard the size markup is common.

Wedding dresses tend to run s couple sizes small and you normally need a bigger size than you would normally wear. But I guess you have to wait for it to come back and see what it feels like on you. If it's really large, have them to reorder your correct size.

Don't worry about it I'm a jean size 10 and was measured in the dress shop as a wedding dress 16. Also they have to order for the largest part of you and alter it to fit the rest of you Smiley smile

Bridal sizing is different than street sizing, and different designers can have different sizing charts. Generally, bridal sizes run smaller, so your bridal size will usually be a higher size.

You can ask your bridal shop to see the sizing chart for your dress' designer and ask to have your measurements checked (or just ask to see the measurements they recorded when they sized you). You should see that they ordered the largest size that your measurements corresponded to on the sizing chart. For example, if your bust corresponds to a size 10 and your hips correspond to a size 16, they should order the 16, not the 10.

Just throwing in that I typically wear between a 4-6 in street clothes, but had my dress ordered in a size 8, and it fit perfectly. Agree with PPs - don't worry about it.

I'm typically a street size 4-8 depending on how things are cut, and my wedding dress is a 10.

Your sizing should be according to measurements. For instance, in actual measurements, I'm a 8-10, in street size, I'm a 4-6.

If you were measured properly, then yes, you will probably be a couple of sizes larger than your normal size.

I'm a size 10, and I was ordered a size 12 that had to be let out. My consultant should've ordered a size 14!

I've been working in the bridal industry for about three years now (Vera Wang) trust and believe bridal runs small! Just to paint a picture for you, the models for Allure Bridal wear a bridal size 6, which translates to a 0 street size. Don't pay attention to the size, be more aware of if and what you will need for alterations. I went shopping for my wedding dress today and fit into three different bridal sizes (I have an athletic build and curves). Just remember it is always easier to take in then it is to let out! I'm glad that your consultant actually showed you the size chart as well, this puts you in control.

I’m a 2 and they had me order my dress in an 8. It was falling off me.
