You have learned a majorly important thing here! It is one thing when people give helpful assistance, letting you know things you are not aware of. For example, when we had just decided something, someone let us know something we planned was illegal in the state where we were marrying, though common near us. So we had to go about things differently. But my first wedding I quickly learned most of what other people say boils down to, I would not do that because I prefer something else. Subjective preferences, but always made to sound like you are doing something terribly wrong. Not that mostly you prefer something at least equally as good as what they suggest, and since it is your wedding, it should be your choice. This wedding we talked to far fewer people. And I came to love my FMIL, whom I had only met 3 times in the 8 months between our meeting each other, and getting engaged. To any of her very opinionated family, and worse, their spouses, when they would start in with telling you you had to do this or that, she would just interrupt them. Excuse me, but whose wedding is this? She would ask. Yes, it is J and T's wedding. And they are doing a fine job planning it without help from you. And she would give them her look, and no matter who it was, nothing more was said. Love that woman.
