Wooden guest book

Jordan, on February 1, 2020 at 10:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 4
Hi everyone!
If you have either used or are using a wooden board for a guestbook, which pens/markers are the best for it?! Ones that don’t bleed, smear and will stay on wood forever!?

Thanks!

And you will have some bleeding bc thats just basic physics, but theyre artist grade pens and shouldn't bleed terribly

If the back side of the board is finished in the same way as the front, or if you have a separate sample board that's finished the same way, you can do some testing to find exactly what you want. Where we live, Michael's has all their various markers/paint pens in a big open display. Daughter was using Jenga blocks for her guest book. We took a block to Michael's and tried a variety of pens until we found one with a fine enough tip so writing didn't look "blobby" and didn't bleed at all. The "right" pen will depend on: the type of wood (a fine, dry grain will be different from a soft pine, etc.), what if any finish is on the wood -- unfinished, stained, sealed, etc., and the specific type of ink. Different finishes will react differently to different pens, so I think it will be hard to get a "right answer" to your question without carefully matching the pen to the finish. (Occasionally, I've had paint pens that bled worst when used on a sealed surface as compared to an unsealed stain....) Good luck!

Great advice from MOB So Cal, Jordan! Could you try some different types on the reverse side? Is it the same finish?
