Witnesses to Apply for the marriage license?

~Jeff's Angel~, on March 17, 2011 at 10:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

FH and I were having a discussion the other day about the marriage license.

He seems to think that you need to have two witnesses when you apply for one and I think you only need them when you actually sign the license....

I looked up the application process for the county we are getting married and it does not say anything about needing witnesses.

Did any of you have witnesses when you applied for the license, or was it just when you actually signed it?

The county should tell you. They will probably witness the signing. Shoot in my county only one of us has to be there in person to apply.

We just sent out our application and it didn't require any witnessing. We will need witnesses when the actual license gets signed the day of the wedding. I witnessed at my brothers wedding and they didn't need any for their application either.

Not where I got married. DS and I both had to apply for it together and give the proper documentation. Otherwise no signatures needed other than our minister when we were done. I didn't even need witnesses for that.

We got ours on Wednesday. Only witness when you actually get married. Ours only required a Social Security Card. They didn't even want to see ID. I thought that was odd.

We actually didn't need a witness when we applied for the license or when it was signed.

Thanks Girls ... It's nice to know I am right with this one LOL ... the info I found online says we have to apply together and bring proper ID as well. I told him it made no sense to me to have witnesses just for applying since we weren't signing the actual document yet.

I think what confused him is he acted as a witness for some friends of his that got married a few years ago and since they signed the license at the court house I think that threw him a little when we were talking about it.

We didn't need witnesses when we applied for the license - only when it was signed at the wedding! This was in TN.
