I don't have final numbers yet but we having invited about 170 people, and I think our wedding could be anywhere in the vicinity of 130-150 people. We plan on doing food stations and food and alcohol is really important to us. The one thing I am torn on, is that even though we are paying for an open bar, the venue wants to charge us to have bottles of wine served at the table, having it not be included in our all you can drink package. I find this to be a complete rip off and am shocked by it but it seems common in the area.

I am not exactly sure how much it is per bottle of wine but I know their per glass of premium wine (which to be honest isn't very premium) is $9 and I feel like the bottles were in the $30-$50 range. I spoke to them about bringing our own wine (for table service only), which if we did I think would be in the $17-$20 mark, as I know a wine vendor who specializing in South African wines, which are my favorite, and they said they would do it for $10 corkage fee.

This would be adding about another $2250 onto our alcohol bill, which just seems absurd to me since we are paying for all you can drink at $72.54 per person (this does not include food). Part of me thinks because we are doing stations and people are going to be up and about anyway, that they can go get their own wine (or whatever it is they would like to drink) but the other part of me thinks that's unappealing and not sure how people would take that/judge that.

Would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Well this is what I am curious about. I dont in any way want to do anything untoward. They can have wine if they go to the bar but its more, is it unexpected to go up and get your own drinks during dinner. If we were doing a plated served dinner I wouldn't consider it at all and just accept the cost but since people are doing stations and getting up anyway and not all eating exactly at the same time, I was wondering if I could "get away" with it.

You don’t need it. Our venue also charged for wine service at dinner. It was an additional $7pp for like a 30-40 minute time period. Not worth it! Our guests were totally fine getting up and ordering drinks from the 2 bars during dinner.

I say no, especially since you're having an open bar. People can get up and get their own drinks. It seems like an unnecessary charge.

I would not imagine that it would be considered inappropriate to allow guests to collect their own drinks from the bar when they visit stations to make their dinner plate. I again encourage you, however, to consider your guests. My guests would be happy if we had adult drink choices at all, so they would not mind going to the bar to get their drinks. Your guests may have a different expectation. Unfortunately, I do not know your family and friends well enough to offer a firm opinion; I can only share my suggestion. Best of luck!

Could you have waiters pouring wine at the tables? Rather than open bottles on each table? Would that be cheaper?

This would be waiters serving at the table. I would imaging having bottles already at the table would or at least should cost less but I dont believe its an option.
