Wine input needed!!!

BringOnMay!, on April 20, 2015 at 3:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

We don't have many wine drinkers, so we're going to get one white wine and one red. I'm not talking brands..... I'm talking Merlot vs. Cabernet, etc and Chardonnay vs. Reisling, etc.

Please tell me your top choice for red wine, and top choice for white wine! Ready, Set, Go!

I like oaked chardonnays but the unoaked chardonnays are far more popular.

What are you serving with your meal? I prefer Bourdeaux but that's typically not as popular as cab sauv.

A lot of it is when you plan to serve it, if you plan to serve it with the dinner make sure it's not going to conflict with your food.

I personally like Pinot Grigio for white and a Shiraz for red

I would say chardonay as it will go with most chicken and fish. A nice cab to go with red meat options.

I prefer Sauvignon Blanc, I find rieslings too sweet and chardonnays too dry. Merlot and Malbecs are very popular at the restaurant I last worked at.

Ok, THIS IS MY THING. First, questions: where is your wedding? Will it be outdoors and hot and sunny? What are you serving for dinner? Is there a cocktail hour, and is that outside?

Reasons: people will want something lighter and crisper if they are warm and outdoors. And you don't want a super heavy red wine with, say, roast chicken.

You are going to get four million answers.

Choose one mid-bodied red, and one white. Ie. Pinot Noir or Merlot or Cab and Unoaked Chard/Pinot Gris(gio).

Riesling. (I prefer white to red and sweet to dry.)

I know m, but I literally know nothing about wine.

We're having Chicken Alfredo, Ham and most likely Roast Beef. The cocktail hour and reception will also be indoors. The bar will be open the whole time.

    In that case:

Chardonnay for the white wine - oaked. This is a richer style, and will go well with the chicken.

For the red: I would say Pinot Noir, but some people prefer a little heavier red. So go Cabernet or Merlot.

Right, so someone saying they like a spicy shiraz, or like the tannic structure of a traditional california cab, or prefer the terroir from old world chateneuf-du-pape, it won't make sense or help.

As someone who's worked with wine for years, just go to wherever you're sourcing your liquor, try something in your price range, and if you like it, serve it.

I love Cabernet... it's my staple wine at home.

I hate stainless Chardonnay never had one I liked, but I am a huge fan of oak cask. But if I get to pick a white, it's pinot grigio which is a dry white with hints of fruit.

I pretty much hate Riesling... lol. Too sweet.

Pinot Grigio or Chard for white and either Merlot or Cabernet for red. Try to avoid anything too dry or too sweet. With limited options it's best to go with middle-of-the-road profiles, that will appeal to the most people.

I personally prefer pinot grigio for white and a cab or merlot for red.

But if it's free and at an event, I'll drink it. I would never buy a chardonnay for myself but I've gotten wine drunk on it plenty of times at weddings or other events.
