Wine box ceremony - when should I do it?

Michelle, on June 28, 2013 at 2:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

I am in the process of writing our ceremony and I can't figure out where I should place the wine box ceremony. For those doing it (or any kind of ceremony - sand, unity candle etc..) - where are you doing it in relation to the readings, vows, rings?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I think we are doing our sand ceremony after our vows. That way everything is done, we pour the sand, the pastor pronounces us and its off to the reception. OH and lets not forget the first kiss as a married couple!! Smiley winking haha

Wine box ceremony is where you write letters to each other talking about what you love about the other and why you knew you wanted to be married. During the ceremony, you seal the letters up in a wine box with a bottle of wine (like a time capsule) and open it on a set anniversary date (we are doing 10 years.) If the marriage is struggling at any point in that 10 years, you are to open the box, read the love letters you wrote to each other, and drink the wine - remembering why you chose to marry each other in the first place. The thought is that it will help you get through rough patches.

    Ours went:

    Welcome

    Silent Blessing

    Consent

    Readings

    Vows

Wine Box Ceremony (but we didn't actually do anything with it, it was only on a table behind us and the officiant talked about it)

    Wedding Prayer and Blessing

    Presentation of couple

We're doing our wine box ceremony right before the pronouncement of marriage and presentation of couple. You can also ask your officiant to help with all that, he should already know.

Thanks all! Looks like some did it closer to the end and some just before vows. As of right now I have it before the vows, but you gave me lots to think about.
