Wine and beer help!

Dacia, on January 21, 2020 at 11:55 AM Posted in Planning 1 12
My fiancé decided to have wine and beer at our reception. We want to keep cost low obviously.
I only drink one kind of wine (just not big on most) and it just doesn’t seem to go far for the price.
With that said I need help figuring out a cheap but good red and white wine. I

Are you allowed to buy it yourself? I think it all comes down to where you get it. We're doing only wine and we're doing a dry red, and dry white, and a dessert wine. You can't buy wine at grocery stores here, but I've heard Costco is a good place to get wine in bulk. Had we been able to bring in outside wine we would have purchased ours from Total Wine. My coworker drove to a Trader Joe's out of state and got all of the wine for his wedding there.

If you're uncertain of what type of wine and beer to get, I suggest bringing a diverse group of wine and beer-drinkers with you to help you choose. 3 types of wine and 2 types of beer (Lager and IPA would be my choices. Stout if we were getting married in winter) should be plenty!

We are allowed to provide our own. We can buy in grocery stores here, so it’s going to take a lot of shopping around to compare. We don’t have a total wine around, I’ve seen that as a suggestion a few times in other threads. We do have a Trader Joe’s though so I might have to check that out!

We did BYO and did the Costco Kirkland branded red and whites. The bottles and bigger and it’s still cheap. Their beers are also a good price there as well. I could have gotten my champagne there, but they didn’t have the specific brand I was looking for, but they do have options.

I would go for the cheaper larger bottles so you get more bang for your buck. The big thing to keep in mind while bulk buying wine is to see if you can return any unopened bottles to the store after the wedding! As far as a cheap but good brand, I like Barefoot. They have a great variety when it comes to types and sizes, and it tastes good! (Maybe I just have cheap taste in wine held over form college lol, but I think it's good!)

We used Rex Goliath brand pinot noir and pinot grigio. It was 5 or 6 dollars a bottle and lots of grocery/liquor stores will give you a discount if you buy by the case, so definiltey check that out!

White wine fanatic here! A cheap goodie is the Vidal Blanc from an adorable winery in the Virginia mountains. You can order online from them, and you always get a discount when you order a case — 12 bottles for around $110. Here's the link! This is the one I'm using for my own wedding!
