Hello ladies hope you are all doing well. I have so many things going through my mind its driving me crazy. With that being said, how many of you live close to family? How close? How did you deal with being away from them? I am very close to my family and very much a daddy's girl. FH lives 45 mins away, at the beginning of all of this we had thought of moving to a town in the middle of both cities so that way he is not near his family nor I mines. To be fair you know. As time went by and we spoke more about it, he has a good job and all and does not want to leave his city. As the supporting wife I want to be I will be leaving my job and everything behind. I am a very sentimental person, do not take change very well. Mind you I still live with my parents and after marriage will me the first time out on my own. I have mixed emotions, about moving and all this new change that is about to happen. They say change is good and that we should not fear it because it may be better than what we thought. At the same time, I am sad, leaving my family and church behind. My parents are pastors and I have so many responsibilities at church that leaving that as well is heart breaking. Sorry for my long rant, any encouraging words or advice would be gladly appreciated.

I live two and a half hours away from my parents (closest family) and to me that’s very close. I used to live on the other side of the country from them.
45 minutes is really close by honestly you can see them all the time still. I’d make sure that you like the city you might move to, that’s the most important imo.

Oh and to answer your question, no we live all over the country! We live in Texas. My family lives in Florida. My fiancé’s family is in Mississippi. It’s absolute chaos when we get together but it’s so much fun!

We live what is usually a subway ride away from DH's parents. (Timing all depends on how the MTA treats us that day. *Should* be an hour. It can be a lot more.)

My parents have lived 2000 miles away for over 10 years, now, and honestly, I hate it (and so does my dad). Thankfully, video chat is a thing, my dad's business frequently brings him back east, and they also just come to visit.

Officially, we live in the same state as my mother, but we are estranged.

I miss my dad, I would love to have him close by all the time, but the distance makes seeing them better. But I've also lived outside my dad's house since I was 20, and DH made sure to go live with roommates before he moved in with me.

Distance is only matters if you can't figure out a way to stay in contact.

I think change can be a good thing! It might be exciting to live in a different city. Plus 45 minutes really isn’t that far- you can absolutely make a church service there if you wanted to.

We live close to my parents- maybe five minutes. I’m attached in a way where I’d need their support and guidance for figuring out babies, but I also know when they retire they want to move away to Florida (we live in New Jersey). My FHs dad lives in Philadelphia (about 45 minutes from us) and my FHs mom lives in Florida.

I live about 1 hour and 40 minutes from my parents, but my in-laws live only about 30 minutes away. I moved to my current city for work, so I really don't have any choice. I am very close with my parents, as I am an only child, so we still make a valiant effort to see each other frequently.

45 minutes really is not very far. You could still see your family as often as you would like with a commute that close. I would look at this move as a fresh start to your new life with your FH. Things happen and life changes for a reason. Embrace it!

I do feel a little excited about moving, meeting new people just a change of scenery and mindset. We never know what can happen. I do not want to have any regrets or live in the "what ifs"

Have you thought about keeping your job and commuting? I used to do a 75 minute commute and now my commute is 35 minutes. It's really not so bad. You adjust. I live within 5 minutes of my parents and two of my sisters so I'm close to my family, but if I was within a couple hours I'm sure I'd still make the effort to see them regularly.

I was planning on commuting at first since I am an assistant general manager but, I do not like to drive that much, plus in the fall and winter it would be difficult for me as I cannot see very well and have glasses, so I did not want to have to deal or worry about of all that. At the same time I was thinking that since I am going into a new chapter in my life might as well change everything. Maybe I will get better pay with better benefits and stuff like that.

I live 9 hours away from my family and have been for 7 years since I left for college. You get use to it after awhile. 45 minutes isn't that far away , and moving away will give you a different opportunity, experience and privacy with your new husband.

I live 15 minutes away from my parents and visit them about 3/4 times a week. I would stay over for a few hours to hang out with them because that’s how close we are. Up until the beginning of this year, I’ve always lived with my parents even during college (attended a university 15 minutes away) so moving in with my fiancé was a change. At first I was super homesick the first month even though I would visit them often because I was so used to seeing them everyday. But now that I’m not living with them, I feel like I cherish the times I spend with them a little more. Honestly if you want to see your parents often, you can definitely make it work.

My FH and I just bought a house together and we are about 10 minutes from my mom. His family lives across the country and I’m super grateful that we’re close to my family at least!

As others have said, 45 minutes isn’t the worst! I drive about 45 minutes each way for work each day. For things that are important to you, 45 minutes shouldn’t be a deal breaker.

I went from living with my parents and having a 10-15 minute commute to work and my siblings house to a 45 minute drive to both my parents/siblings house and to work. That drive to work will become an hr or more whenever school starts back up. We are going on about a month and a half of living together and being married. When we got back from our week long honeymoon (we were use to going on vacation together then going to separate houses) I cried every night for about a week and a half. I then started going to my parents house during my lunch break just to hang out with them and catching up. We are about 15 minutes from H's parents house, so we go there a lot especially for dinner or just to hang out. Luckily, H and I come from families that love to hang with each other often, so it helps! I'm sure my MIL will become tired of us soon lol. Smiley laugh So, I just wanted to say it will get easier! Good luck!
