will she outshine me?

Sh, on April 13, 2013 at 12:09 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 22

Ok so my colors are red, black and ivory. I am wearing ivory and at first I was thinking of having all of my bridesmaids wear red, but FH and I started thinking and we agreed that my sister (MOH) would wear red since she is MOH and that the rest of the girls would wear black because they could reuse the dress. But now I am thinking that maybe my sister will outshine me because she will be the only one wearing red.

what do you ladies think? Am I right or am I just being cray cray?

She won't outshine you - you're the bride! All eyes will be on you, not her!

I agree with Danielle! No matter what color she is in, except maybe ivory, she won't outshine you!

I'm going to disagree with all the other ladies. Red is a different color spectrum then black, so i think she will stand out a lot. What about the bms in a lighter shade of red then the moh. I'd Keep it the same color but a different shade. Or have the bms wear long black dresses and moh wear a short black one.

I'm personally a fan of all same dresses Smiley smile

In pictures and even standing together, having darker or stronger colors next to the bride in white or ivory, makes the bride stand out more! The eye naturally goes to the lightest color.

I was a makeup artist for 25 years too and that is how contouring is done on the face; light brings things forward, darkness recedes.

You are going to be gorgeous and truly stand out!!

You could always put her in black but have a red accent on her or a different bouquet... either way you are going to be the bride... everyone will be looking at you no matter what your bridesmaids are in.

Thank you ladies. I'm starting to feel a little better.

@Abby- I am letting my BMs choose their own dress but I am going with them. I want them to be comfortable in what they are wearing and I want them to be able to wear it again if they want. Plus all my bridesmaids have completely different bodies, they range from 5'0 to 6'2 .

I also like the accent idea KrazyKel

My colors are the same as yours. My bm are in black my maid and matron are in red I can't wait to see it. As for our shining you. I doubt it. I'm not in the least but worried. Everyone knows who the bride is all eyes will be on us Smiley smile

Maybe.....if it's a huuge blinged out ballgown with a matching headdress. Otherwise nope ;P

Keep in mind that someone's not going to shift a literal spotlight off of you onto her just because she's in red. Actually, I never understood why brides worry about BMs outshining them, because aside from when they walk down the aisle no one will be looking at them unless you're gonna make them stand while you say your vows and even then all eyes are on the couple. Every wedding I've seen the BMs get 30 seconds of attention and then they sit down and no one pays attention to them again until they walk back the other way.

She won't outshine you but I do like the idea of her wearing red as an accent.

I would have to agree that she will not "outshine" you. However, I believe that her being the only one in red will be a distraction. That being said, FinallyDoingIt is right; add a red accent to her gown. My colors are Pewter, Wine and Silver. All my girls are wearing Pewter, and I purchased a brooch for my MOH that has Wine colored crystals. Something small to distinguish the honor is enough, it doesn't necessarily have to scream that she's your MOH. (I would have put that in all CAPS, but MasqueradeBride would have gotten mad ;-))

Cray cray. The only.time I don't immediately see the bride in a picture is when her girls are wearing ivory or very very pale.pastels. even then it is easy to figure out, just takes a minute. My girls are wearing a really bright fuschia pink.

I agree with KrazyKal. Give her a red accent, not all red. She will stand out, maybe not as much as you, but she will certainly stand out.

Just be sensible with the shade of red you pick out, and you won't have a problem.

    TackyTackyTacky.

All right Shelley The Hormonal, you'll be a gorgeous bride, and there's no way anybody is going to outshine you. Seriously, we've seen weddings where the BMs were in all sorts of colors, bright, shiny, poke-you-in-the-eyes colors, and nobody ever outshines the bride.
