Tanika M. ©EO, on January 20, 2013 at 3:41 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

Yeah, my FH does't seem too into it. Bums me out and kinda makes me not want to go the route with the wedding I'm going but I am my parents only daughter so they want to make it special.

    Eh.

I've been told numerous times that it's normal for our partners to not be as outwardly excited as we are. I've gotten comfortable with the fact that as long as my FH is willing to hash out details with me I don't care if he shows outward excitement.

As far as everyone else, I feel like I can talk about it forever and they are trying to be supportive but want me to talk about something else.

It's ok if you have to come here. We'll be super excited with you!

I've also accepted that he may express more excitement or interest in details that are different than the ones I'm excited about. For example, my FH is really into fashion and has been putting thought into how he wants his groomsmen to dress, even as he tells me it's too early to look for a caterer.

This is normal. Sometimes I want to strangle mine but I have learned to pick my battles with him. When HE brings up the wedding, then I go full force with my questions and conversations. Other than that, I wait and watch.

Yeah, mine is a no go on pretty much everything. I think he wanted to know how the venue went and if I'd decided on it so he could tell his friends and fam a definite wedding date. He hasn't revisited the issue after that.

Like I drive 35 mins each weekend (on more depending on the awful HR traffic) to hang out during the weekend. So tom is MLK Jr day and I take care of my gma so I have to leave tonight. He has a half day tom for work. I told him I had to go home to take care of my gma and discuss more wedding things w my mom. I suggested he could come over to hang out after work, hang out, maybe talk wedding stuff with my parents, and he came up with reasons he couldn't. Like I said..eh.

I thought he'd be into the invites as he's a computer guy but nothing.

And Thanks Melani. It's nice to know us ladies can come somewhere to vent.

Yeah I feel the same way. I can only talked about it with my aunt or my MOH. I am an only child and not even my parents want to talk about, and they are not even helping us out. Well my mom is buying my dress or helping with a portion of it, but that's it. :/

I'm excited and nervous at the same time! Luckily my FH is excited and does engage and show interest when I talk about wedding details. But...when it comes to him completing tasks that are wedding related(full names & addresses) now that's another story lol

I think it definitely normal... my FH is excited but when I start bringing up details... I think he get overwhelmed. So, I end up pulling up tabs of vendors on the computer and THEN call him over and be like "which do you like... here's all the caterers that fall into our budget/desires". THEN he is totally willing to devote some time. haha. And as far as friends and family... my wedding is kind of non-existent. it's sad because even though its 11 mo away, I'm super excited!

I completely agree! FH cares about the most random things but he's passionate about them so it's good enough for me!

I think that is pretty normal for most brides that they want to talk about wedding and no one else seems that excited about it. It is a huge day for us but for everyone it is just another day and for me I had to realize that the world was not stopping for my wedding day. Luckily for me my mom was just as excited as me( maybe even more) so I learned to talk with her about it and stay clear of talking to my other family or friends about it unless they specifically asked. I was a WW addict while I was engaged and still like to come here as a married woman.

YES!!! I can understand!!!! That's why I keep my thoughts and wedding planning on WW! I can wedding talk here twenty four hours a day and seven days a week without anyone saying they are tired of hearing about it or rolling of the eyes. LOL I just really don't talk to anyone about it unless they are in the wedding party and its something that they have to know or someone ask me about the wedding and even then its kept to a minimum. LOL I just figured no one wants to hear wedding stuff unless they are getting married. I can say my aunts are so excited....you would think they are walking down the aisle. They love to talk about it and they have been so supportive. They are my deceased fathers sisters and so they fill they really have to be apart of my special day and anyway they can help they are.

Don't feel left out! I'm going through the SAME thing! My FH's. Favorite thing to say is "I don't know" my bridesmaids (other than my FH's sister) show no interest in anything; And 3 of my 5 bridesmaids are my sisters!!

Yeah WW is all i have too. My mom is perfectly willing to discuss the house renovation but gets quickly irritated when i mention my wedding. My dad wont discuss the wedding at all except to say he is not dancing with me. My FH will talk about it but he drifts in and out and most of his answers consist of "ok" "sound good". kinda kills my buzz.

I hear ya! My mom isn't the ideal wedding planner helper Smiley winking and FH gets excited with only certain things. He obviously doesn't care about the centerpieces or the bouquets, but I am thankful that he gets excited for the parts that matter, like when we go through the ceremony with our pastor. His eyes light up like a kid on Christmas morning Smiley smile
