why is catering so Expensive!

Maya, on July 7, 2019 at 7:59 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13
I guess I’m just having sticker shock, but I’m trying to wrap my head around the quotes we’ve been getting: $12-15K for catering! We live in the DMV area so of course things are pricey here but sheesh. My initial budget alone was 20K and it’s clearly BLOWN with catering. Venues are also expensive at $6,500-7,500. Welcome to recommendations btw!

We spent $21k on catering in Carmel, CA for 160 people. If you have a venue where you can bring in your own caterer Mexican/Italian/bbq restaurants are usually cheapest for a more casual wedding.

Eep!! Our invite list is at 140 (hoping 130 will show haha). Definitely going to look into restaurant catering. Didn’t think of that! Thanks Kelly. 😊

Hey fellow DMV bride! I'm with you, catering is crazy expensive! But I realized it's more than food: it's paying employees, equipment, and licensing.

Yeah same here. That's why we stuck to the basic buffet package at our venue: 1 passed appetizer during cocktail hour, 2 proteins with sides. We opted out of extra stations and desserts.

I would look into Putting on the Ritz, they did our friend's wedding and it was very nice.

Hey Stacy! I’ve looked at over 30 venues on the app (as toured only 3 so far). I would love to find a nice farm style venue. I’ve been looking at Catering Reserved for the reception.

Have you considered having your wedding at a non-meal time? That way you can have a simple (but delicious) cake and punch reception!
