I just RSVP'd for a wedding in October online and the bride and groom are requesting that guests wear "garden attire" to their rehearsal dinner. I am sorry, but why are they dictating what to wear to a rehearsal dinner. I think it is one thing to say to not wear jeans, but to actually have a specific dress code seems ridiculous to me especially because I now have to go buy something to wear to this rehearsal dinner because I don't really own anything that adheres to this dress code. Below is I have copied what it says on their website as being acceptable attire for the rehearsal dinner. To me this seems over the top and rather controlling.

Garden Attire: Wear sundresses, floral prints, dress shirts in lighter hues.

I think it's completely okay of them to ask that - the rehearsal dinner is an opportunity for photos and extra memories. It's cute to me that they have a theme.

You don't have to comply - and a sundress is simple! I actually think this is a cute idea.

I mean it isn’t a requirement. It’s a request. I don’t see the big deal with this at all.

I saw before that you got married in California which is where this wedding is. What is the weather like in October because I'm obviously going to have to buy a dress for this and probably a gown for the wedding.

The way I took it is sundresses are a great option, clothing items with floral prints are also a great option (ie, dresses, pantsuits, jumpsuits, men’s dress shirts, etc), as well as men wearing lighter colored dress shirts is a great option

I was looking on Amazon for dresses and a lot of them are white which I assume I should avoid. A lot are also dark blue which is probably not acceptable either so I will have to continue to look.

It depends on what part of California! In my area on the coast we have something called Indian summer where September and October is the warmest time of the year. It’s generally mid 70s and sunny! It gets cool in the evenings though so bringing some sort of wrap or sweater would be good.

Thanks! They are having the rehearsal at like 4:00-6:30 then a welcome party at 8. It is in San Diego, but I will definitely have to make sure to bring something to cover up since I get cold extremely easy.

I have unfortunately never been to San Diego, I’m about 7 hours north! But I’m sure a casual dress and a sweater or jacket for the evening will be perfect.

I dont think it has to be floral printed. It reads to me that a sundress would be fine....
