Why do some dress stores not allow you to take Pics?

Delectable Darla, on January 5, 2012 at 6:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

This may sound like a stupid question...but why do some places not allow pics in the dress? I guess i just don;r get what the big deal is.

Its so that you don't go home and make the same dress yourself... I've had several sales people tell me that. Apparently dresses are trademarked or something... its proprietary property.

My guess is, and its just that a guess, so you cant then take that picture somewhere else and buy the dress or even have it made. Most bridal stores even change the item numbers so you cant take it and then find the same dress elsewhere for cheaper.

It’s so people don’t go try on the dress then look for a knock off on line based on the pic. Once you have put your deposit down you should be able to take all the pics you want

One store told me its because the designer does not allow photographs of the dress until you purchase/own it. You can only take pictures of you in YOUR dress, not even the sample after you pay for it. TOTAL BULL. i went to a different store, tried the SAME EXACT DRESS on and they let me take all the photos i wanted! let me take pics pretending to walk down the aisle with a bouquet, pics with a veil on, etc.

David's Bridal lets you take as many pics as you want, you could have your own photoshoot in the dress if you wanted Smiley tongue

so i really have no idea.

I didn't realize some stores didn't let you take pics - I guess I gotta make sure I go to one that lets me...I went with my sister dress shopping and they let me take a bunch of pictures of her in the dresses...like how else are you supposed to remember how else you looked in the dress

When I worked at a retail store I had to tell some girls to stop taking pictures. I later asked my manager why. They are afraid you will steal the idea of like a shirt or jeans, make it yourself, and sell it.

Yes, it's the thing with you not going somewhere else and have it made at a lower price.

However, taking labels and item numbers off is illegal, although they still do it. You DO have the right to compare prices.

I went to one store that wouldn't let me take pictures, took the tags off the dresses, would not tell you the price of it until you asked and would not tell you the designer of the dress until you bought it. Definitely not buying my dress from them.

I don't know why for sure either :[. One store in particular could have made a sale from me more than likely if I didn't feel like they we're being so secretive & competitive. I went to a shop & absolutely loved a dress I had tried on, but I wanted to sleep on it before I made that purchase. This particular shop wouldn't tell me the designer or style number or anything, other than it was tulle & something else [actually my first post on this site to identify a dress I thought it was haha]. With that said, I was so put off :/. So I continued dress shopping & actually found a dress I LOVED so much more with a better price tag at a much friendlier shop :].

We ran into a couple dress shops like that. Needless to say we didn't go back there. I tell all potential vendors that I will not be making a decision that day and if they don't allow me to leave their place of business with the information needed to compare them to their competition, then they won't be part of the consideration when we actually make our decision.
