Why are bridesmaids dresses so expensive?

2018wedding, on August 3, 2017 at 11:02 AM Posted in Planning 0 18

Whew, just venting.

While wedding dress shopping I will browse through the bridesmaids section.

For the most BASIC dresses, $150-$200.

Crazy, those dress would probably cost $50 at Macy's if "wedding" wasn't attached to it.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Your bridesmaids can totally buy their dresses at Macys!

You don't have to buy designated "bridesmaid" dresses from a bridal boutique. My girls got theirs from Dress Barn for less than $30. Shop around. Macys and Nordstroms have some great options for far less than what you'd pay at a bridal store.

Think outside the box. Yes, macy's often has evening gowns that are pretty similar to styles you can find at DB's and the like for 1/3 the price.

Mine got theirs at Charlotte Russe, Lulus, and Amazon, the most expensive was $64. The one from CR was $35 on sale.

When my MOH was a BM at another friend's wedding, all their dresses were from Forever 21!

If you purchase them at a bridal salon I think they are marked up much higher than the same thing at a department store. We found dresses for my oldest daughter's wedding online at Overstock.com for $65 that were more than double that at a salon. Once you know the style you like, look around to find them at a better price.

Lulus.com - dresses were $68 !!! I hated having to shell out 150$+ on a one time dress I didn't even like in the past.

    Check out there - Macy's, dillards, Amazon, azazie.com !!

    Yep!

I paid $200 for a DB bridesmaid dress for a wedding I'm in but I would have been happier with the Amazon ones I saw. Would have been better for my wallet, too. They run like $40-$60 and are great quality - I bought one for my sister recently.

Depends, I went to a local place and they gave the girls 15% off but it was still 190 not including alternations

Buy where you want to buy. A dress is a dress.

I don't think that's very expensive. That's about what I pay for a nice dress for an event for work. Most of the BM dresses I've bought have been up to the $300 plus so there's that.

Because everything with the word "wedding" tacked on dictates the prices should triple!!

We got ours for $30 at Banana Republic Factory Store (outlet), looked great on my girls and everyone loved them! Shop around, no need for designated wedding dresses. Getting creative is OK.

Agreed. They are ridiculous. Most weddings I've been in the dress has run between $150-$300 - and that's before alterations. It sucks because I'd never wear any of them again. Not only are they expensive, most of them are ugly.
