Whose Name Goes First?

If we're being honest, Janiya, there is probably an etiquette about it, but I think it's a personal preference. I know that when people are talking about me and my SO, it's their name first, then mine, and that's just how I'm used to hearing it, so that's what I would print.

I always thought that the Groom is first but it’s actually the bride! Traditionally because the bride’s family usually pays for the wedding but since that’s not as common anymore it’s whatever your preference is!

You can really do it either way, but traditionally the bride's name comes first until after the wedding, then the groom's name comes first.

Hi Maggie! Thanks so much for the insight. I haven't heard any etiquette rules about it yet! Normally when someone is referring to the both of us as a couple, my name is followed by his name.

I think traditionally the bride because her parents are hosting the event, but that's not as common so I don't think it matters. I think we switched it up because I didn't really think about it so it's different on save the dates, invites, programs, etc.

We have a stamp just like this because we already live together, and his name is first. We will probably just use the same one!

I think on the invites the brides name is first because it used to be that her family covered the costs and hosted/planned the wedding

In all honesty, I would say do as you please. Some couples do it alphabetical, the side who paid (or paid more) and some people sound it out out loud to hear what sounds better On our engagement invites, my fiance automatically put my name first.

Before a woman is married her name goes first. After marriage the man’s name goes first. That’s the traditional etiquette but I don’t think anyone will notice or care whichever way you do it.

Absolutely had a hard time doing this, had to keep it the same every time
so i finally settled on his name first

It's personal preference. I have his name first then mine on all our stuff.

I don’t think it matters. I just do my name first because I like the way the names flow better that way. It ALSO makes them appear in alphabetical order, which my nerd brain likes haha
