Whose Initial Goes First?

Bri, on July 4, 2018 at 9:35 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11
I just found some nice, cheap invitations that we both can finally agree on and for the ones we chose, on the back there will be our initials. I'm not sure if his or mine goes first, though. My name is first on the front so should my initial be first on the back?

I'm planning on putting our initials in alphabetical order (so his will be first in our case).

Thanks. Maybe I'll just try it both ways and see which one looks best on the preview then. I haven't worried this much about my initials since I was in middle school and my brother's friends found out my initials were 'BJ'.

Play around with it and see what you like! We aren't even putting my fiancee's first name on the invites because he hates it. He's always gone by his middle name and that's what everyone knows him as. I'm putting my nickname too, instead of my birth name. It's whatever you want, it's your wedding!

Our invitations also have our initials on the back. I made them on Shutterfly and the sample wording had my bride's name first and it auto populated my initial first on the back. I dont really think it matters though, some people do them alphabetically or just however it sounds best.

Someone told me that traditionally on any wedding materials the bride’s name goes first then the groom’s. And once you’re married it switches. I don’t think it matters much though. You could also just do it in alphabetical order.

I came here to say this too. Traditionally, before the wedding the bride's name and initial goes first and then after the wedding the groom's name and initial goes first.

I think it depends on your initials! My initial is M and my fiancé’s is E, so putting them together with mine first looks strange (at least in my opinion) as it creates a word. Maybe I’m overthinking it though!

For male/female weddings, I read the woman’s name goes first on the invite as tradition was that her parents presented her to be married to her spouse (or something traditional-sounding like that). So maybe your initials first??
