Who's having Italian food?!

Marissa, on December 16, 2019 at 2:27 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

Hi everyone, I might regret this, but I'm seeking your opinion on the reception menu. We only have a choice of 5 preferred vendors and we have chosen a pretty well known, but local, Italian restaurant. They have a decent amount of options and the price is good. But currently, I'm stuck on which route to go.

From the meats offered, we figured it safe to choose Italian baked chicken as one of our contenders, which is like $10 a person (this is a buffet with sides included). I don't eat red meat, so that's why we selected chicken. They also offer pasta options, obviously. Spaghetti or mostaccioli (also a buffet with sides) is only $8 a person. I personally LOVE PASTA. Spaghetti is my favorite food. But I'm trying to please a crowd, not just myself. FH is more concerned about it being cheaper because he's footing most of the bill, which I understand and agree with to an extent. But I don't want to seem skimpy by serving pasta, ya know? Italian food peeps, did your guests seem to like it?

Side note: only one person invited is vegan and no one is vegetarian, so I took that into account. Also, we really aren't the super "fancy" type of people. I'm not that concerned about Italian being a more economic and perhaps not as "fancy" option.

TIA!

I think pasta is usually a pretty safe bet, but then I come from an Italian family that has tons of pasta at every large family function. Smiley xd

Only concern with pasta is I would check to make sure if there's anyone who has to eat gluten free, and make sure there's an option for them if so.

I also love pasta lol. I’ve never had Italian food at a wedding but I don’t think it sounds like a bad idea. I would definitely have the chicken and maybe one other “main” in addition to the spaghetti, along with salad, bread etc. I know you checked on veggie or vegan guests but like always I would ask for all dietary needs so you’re sure everyone has something suitable.

I love seeing pasta on a buffet line! I was just at an event with pasta and it was a huge hit. Granted, it was not a wedding, but it was still a nice event. This is in addition to the chicken? Or would it just be pasta? If you can only have one, what are the sides? sometimes pasta can be a side and so you could still get chicken and pasta?

Not sure what your options are, but people will be happy with whatever you choose! Italian food is great!

We had pasta for our rehearsal dinner and wedding, but we also had meat options. For the rehearsal, we had chicken and ham and for the wedding we had steak and turkey. As for the pasta, one type of pasta noodles for the rehearsal with three different sauce options. For the wedding, we had two different pasta noodle options with two different sauces. I love pasta and all of our guests seemed to really enjoy our food. I would recommend having more than one type of sauce option just because not everyone likes the same sauce. I know I don't like spaghetti sauce and my husband can't eat it because it gives him really bad acid, but we both like vodka sauce and alfredo sauce.

I love pasta and i think this sounds like a great idea. We are doing Italian food for our rehearsal dinner. We are going to have different types of pizza, salad, garlic bread and mostaccioli as well. I'm super excited for it.

My cousin had classic spaghetti and alfredo catered from Hyvee at their wedding. It was a more casual setting, and I LOVED it! It sounds like you would do the chicken in addition to the pasta, so if people don't like it, they don't have to take it! I think you should go for it!

I’m married to an Italian and we eat a lot of their cuisine! At events or parties, there’s often lemon chicken with mostaccioli as a side. I would probably not just serve pasta as the only main dish, unless you had a couple of choices like in a pasta bar.
