Mallory, on May 7, 2017 at 4:40 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 12

Anyone have some success on either? I know whole30 is a big one now...how difficult is both programs to follow?

I've done three rounds of whole30 and you need patience, a lot of time for meal prep and you need to commit. The problem I have had is when I'm done with whole30, I go off like crazy and think pop tarts are a balanced meal. I am looking for a lifestyle program, and although whole30 offers that, I just can't seem to commit all the way.

I have not currently done either but am thinking about doing whole 30. the biggest difference that I can see when looking at them is that advocare includes "products" that they want you to use, while whole30 is really just about eating foods without added ingredients and eating more naturally. They focus organic when possible and foods without added sugars etc. Definitely a big commitment and requires meal prep, not eating out, etc. I have a friend that did it with her fiance and both lost a good amount of weight and have kept it off. They have continued eating that way in general overall although has more cheat days etc now. They did a more relaxed second round in which she included smoothies as well as some other things that are technically compliant with the program but not necessarily recommended.

I've done a couple rounds of Whole30 and average about 15-20 pounds of weight loss per round. I feel so much better and my skin looks amazing!

Whole30 changed my relationship with food and taught me about balance. I've been able to keep the weight off without too much trouble.

I'll be starting a new round of Whole30 next week.

This was the difference after one round of Whole30. I have better picture that show the difference, I just have to find them.

I would not do any type of pyramid/MLM challenge be it cleanse or diet plan. You get hooked into spending a lot of money that a simple meal plan and good meal prep would do for you. The key is meal prep. That is my kitchen and I prep for FH and myself twice a week. It is our lifestyle not a fad.

Neither of these programs are sustainable lifestyle diets for most people. If you're one of the few who could live that way forever, go for it. If not, why bother when you're just going to gain the weight back? I do think it could work if you just want to drop like 5 lbs in the month before the wedding and are fine with gaining the 4 lbs right after the wedding (no judgment, I'm doing that), but not if you're looking to lose weight and maintain a lower weight permanently.

This is going to sound harsh, but every time I see one of these threads, there are tons of people who are doing these fad diets and saying it worked for them... but rarely do they say "I do it and I'm now at a healthy BMI and have been for x years." Unless you've become a healthy weight and maintained it for a while, has it really worked? What is your definition of a successful weight loss?

I'm on my second round of Advocare. I'm using it as a reboot to get out of bad habits. I'm not looking for a quick fix. For me the benefits are more hydration and more energy from that. I don't wake up making a beeline to the coffeemaker now.

Btw, there was an advocare distributor on here recently and she said Advocare is not intended primarily for weight loss, though people see some small losses when they cut out junk and move more.

I only made it 5 days doing Whole30. I mean it obviously works because you have to eat clean, and it cut out a lot of foods that are normally in my diet. If you do it, you really need to meal prep and think ahead of what kind of foods to cook. I was not prepared for it, which is why it didn't work for me.

I lost a few pounds on Advocare, but once I finished up those 24 days, I basically gained it all back.

    Eat less. Move more.

    Neither-

Focus on lean protein, vegetables, healthy fats and occasional fruits. Don't buy in to the MLM scheme.

For me, Whole30 is to restrictive to stick with long term (no dairy?? no way), so I never tried it. You can eat whole foods and include cheese, yogurt and eggs as well.

I've done 4 rounds of whole 30. I live 95% paleo and have kept the weight off now for about a year and a half.

Meal prep is key. The idea behind whole 30 is to learn how your body reacts with certain foods and to break the food addiction.

I’ve done Challenges through Advocare on and off and although I don’t use their products daily, it taught me so much about clean eating and balancing what I eat. I’ve lost 100lbs since 2014 doing a couple Advocare challenges each year and I get to eat whatever I want while maintaining an 80/20 lifestylE. I know people don’t like the MLM thing and that’s totally fine (I don’t sell to anyone) I just know that it works for me🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m also starting Whole30 in a couple weeks to cut back on sugar and beat my sugar cravings a little more.

( I wish I could find a photo to add but If you’re interested my Instagram is @mvbree and you can find my progress photos there...)

Omg I've done both and they were so hard for me. I actually just started doing this program called the Optavia 5&1 diet and I've lost 20 pounds in 2 months. Only 20 more to go before I'm at my goal! You should look into it! It's a little expensive but the cost of their food basically replacing your grocery/eating out bills and it works SUPER fast. It sounds hard but in all honesty it's the easiest diet I've ever done and it's given me the best/fastest results. And I don't even have to exercise.
