Who pays for Best Man suit?

My fiance's brother (Best Man) just called and said he isn't going to pay for his tux rental and he can't believe that he is expected to do so... In every single wedding my fiance and I have been in (and there were MANY) we always paid for our own outfits! Whether it be a bridesmaid dress or a tux...

My fiance's brother (Best Man) just called and said he isn't going to pay for his tux rental and he can't believe that he is expected to do so...

In every single wedding my fiance and I have been in (and there were MANY) we always paid for our own outfits! Whether it be a bridesmaid dress or a tux rental. I haven't ever heard of the groom/bride paying for the bridal party's outfits.

Am I out of the loop on this one? Is paying for the best man and MOH what people do these days?

Usually the bridal party is expected to pay for their own attire. We offered and are paying for the bridesmaid dresses and the tuxes just so they don't have to deal with spending extra money. But it is totally normal and expected that they pay for their own. When we offered to pay everyone was super surprised because they were expecting to pay for their own. Like most people.

It is VERY common they are expected to pay for their own attire.
Instead of getting GM gifts, my FH and I budgeted to pay for all of the GM suit rentals instead.

Typically they pay for their own attire. FHs BM lost his job after we got engaged and asked him to be in our wedding. We paid for his tux as a surprise for him. But that's a different situation.

@E&M yes in the uk and Ireland the couple pay to dress the whole bridal party including the guys, hence why they are generally smaller. I'm assuming though that @octoberbride isn't either the U.K. Or Ireland though by her comments that she and FH always paid to dress themselves when they were in previous weddings. Assuming you still want him as a bestman I would have FH talk to him,maybe he is tight on money at the moment, perhaps ye can come to some sort of a compromise, a similar cheaper suit, or help him out with some of it, if its out of yer budget try to explain that to him. Be careful though if you do decide to pay for his suite, how do you explain it to the other guys who had to pay for themselves!

We did pay for our groomsmen but we are having a destination wedding and felt bad. If we got married at home we would not have.

Hope, I hate those deals where you get one suit free. What you are really doing is making everyone else pay for the one you pick.

I am sorry about your BILs medical bills, but making others pay for him is not right.
